JEE Paper Patterns - Mains and Advanced 2022

The NTA has not yet released the latest examination pattern for the academic year 2022. However, based on the previous year’s data, we have provided some curated information for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams that will help students get a rough idea of how they should go about preparing for the tests.

JEE Mains Paper Pattern 2022

The JEE Mains will be conducted twice this year as well. One session will be held in June and another will be held in July. The two sessions have similar patterns for the papers. The following table has been provided to ensure that JEE Mains aspirants get an idea of how they can plan their preparation with regard to the examination pattern for the test. The table contains all the necessary details about both papers, starting from total marks in JEE Mains to the marking scheme of the papers. JEE Advanced Paper Pattern 2022

The following is a list of important details that any JEE aspirant should keep in mind before and while appearing for the JEE Advanced. 

  • Exam Date: JEE Advanced 2022 will be conducted after the conclusion of JEE Mains 2022, which will commence on 21st April 2022. According to the revised dates, the JEE Advanced exam will be conducted on 28th August 2022. 

  • Mode of Exam: JEE Advanced 2022 exam shall be conducted via an online mode only (CBT - Computer-Based Mode).

  • Number of Papers: There will be 2 papers in JEE Advanced 2022. Candidates appearing for the exam are required to attempt both papers.

  • Number of Sections: JEE Advanced 2022 will have 2 papers with 3 separate sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

  • Type of Question Paper: The question paper will consist of objective type questions that include Multiple Choice Questions as well as Numerical Answer Type Questions.

  • Timings: The exam duration of both Papers 1 and 2 shall be 3 hours.

  • Medium of Paper: Both papers can be answered in both English and Hindi. However, the choice of language needs to be made at the time of registration for the JEE Advanced.

Marking Scheme for JEE Advanced 2022 

The marking scheme for the JEE Advanced 2022 has not been released yet. We, however, have provided a marking scheme based on the previous year’s records so that aspirants can have a fair understanding of how and where they can score or lose marks. There will be a total of 54 questions in each paper of the JEE Advanced exam. As for the total marks, papers 1 and 2 will have 188 marks each, that is, the total marks for both papers will be 376.

3. How many languages can I take the JEE Advanced exam in?

The JEE Advanced exam can be taken in one of 2 languages - English and Hindi. However, the medium of writing the paper has to be chosen and mentioned at the time of registration for the JEE Advanced exam. 

4. Is there negative marking in JEE Mains?

According to the latest exam pattern, in JEE Mains 2022, 4 marks will be awarded for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. So yes, there will be negative marking in JEE Mains 2022.
