The Dadasaheb Phalke award is one of India’s highest prestigious awards, given to people who have an "outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.” Yearly, the Union ministry of Information and Broadcasting is conducting this National Film Awards ceremony. Devika Rani, a famous Indian artist, was the first person to receive Dada Saheb Phalke Award in the 17th National Film Awards. Till 2021, 51 people from the cinema industry received this award.

Who Is Dada Saheb Phalke?
Dhundiraj Govind Phalke was a famous Indian producer, screenwriter, and director. Dhundiraj Govind Phalke was born on 30th April 1870 at Trimbak, Bombay. He belongs to the Marathi-speaking Chitpavan Brahmin family. He was popularly known as Dada Saheb Phalke. He started his career in 1893 as a photographer and started it as a business. The Debut film of Dada Saheb Phalke was Raja Harishchandra, which was released in 1913. This is the first full-length feature film. During his lifetime, he created 95 feature-length films and 27 short films within 19 years. Setubandhan was the last released film, which was released in 1932. Gangavataran was the previous movie and the only talking movie produced by the Dada Saheb Phalke and released in 1937. He felt ill while started adopting the emerging sound film technology and shed his last breath on 16th February 1944.
