Ramon Magsaysay Award Initiated in the Philippines

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is the annual award that is established to follow and replicate the Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay who was based on the principle of governance integrity, courageous service to the common people, and sensible and realistic individual within the domain of society. This prize was established in the month of April in the year 1957 in New York City under the rule of the Philippine Government.

Ramon Magsaysay Award is named after the third president of the Republic of the Philippines named Ramon Magsaysay. The Foundation of Raman Magsaysay Award gives the prize to Asian individuals for achieving excellence in their respective fields of work. As mentioned already, the award is named after the third president of the Philippines Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is the premier most and highest honored award in Asia.

The award function started in the year 1957, the Magsaysay award celebrates the memory and the leadership which is exemplified by the former Philippine president. The award is given every year to the individuals or the organizations of Asia. Those individuals or organizations who act selflessly and prove in transforming the society with the influence of a leader like quality.

The winners for this award are selected category-wise by the trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation. They are awarded a medal, a right-side facing profile of the Ramon Magsaysay, also a certificate accomplishing the award.

Indian Recipients of Ramon Magsaysay Award

Ramon Magsaysay Award or the Nobel Award of the Asian Continent is given to the citizens only from the Asian continent. Ramon Magsaysay Award in the year 2019 is given to five individuals including the India's most Influential journalist called Ravish Kumar. Another recipient of this award includes Angkhana Neelapajit, from Thailand (who is a human rights activist), Philippines’ Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab (a musician), Myanmar’s Ko Swe Win (also a journalist), and South Korea’s Kim Jong-Ki, who is an activist working on the violence and the mental health issues in the youth.
