WBJEE exam is one of the most prestigious exams in the state of West Bengal. The WBJEE eligibility is determined by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board. When will the WBJEE Exam Be Conducted?

WBJEE exam 2024 will be conducted on April 28, 2024 (Sunday) all across the state of West Bengal.

 

What are the Eligibility Criteria for WBJEE Engineering?

You have to meet the eligibility criteria as determined by the WBJEE Board. Candidates are requested to check all the eligibility criteria for WBJEE engineering before applying for the same.


General Eligibility Criteria for WBJEE Engineering:

  • Nationality: 

The nationality of the candidate should be Indian.


  • Age limit: 

The lower age limit of the candidate is 17 years as on 31.12.2024 or must be born on or before 31.12.2005. There is no upper age limit for the WBJEE exam. Only for Marine Engineering, the upper age limit is fixed as 25 years as on 31.12.2024 by the WBJEE Board. 


  • Academic Qualification:

Candidates are required to pass class 12 examination (or equivalent) with Mathematics and Physics along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Computer Application. You must pass each of these subjects individually in regular class mode (theory and practical). The candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in 2024 are also eligible for WBJEE 2024 exam. The qualifying exam board must be Central or State Govt.


  • Marks Needed: 

An aggregate of 45% marks must be obtained by the general category candidates in all the three main subjects. For SC/ST/OBC the required aggregate marks to be secured is 40%. The candidates are also required to obtain at least 30% marks in English.  

  • Domicile:

Domicile is one of the determining factors in WBJEE 2024 eligibility. The candidates must be a resident of West Bengal for consecutive 10 years as on 31.12.2024. If the parents of the candidate are permanent residents of the state then domicile eligibility will be given to the candidate.

What are the Important Points of WBJEE Domicile Certificate Criteria?

The candidates who do not possess the required domicile eligibility can also appear in WBJEE exam.


Accordingly, for admissions into the Govt Engineering colleges in reserved seats the candidate should meet the domicile eligibility criteria of WBJEE 2024.


Allotments which are done through Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme will also require domicile criteria to be fulfilled.


Candidates are required to download the prescribed pro format and keep all the domicile certificates ready for the counseling and allotment process. 


The candidates failing to provide the WBJEE domicile certificate at the time when required will be disqualified straight away.

The Jadavpur University eligibility criteria are as follows:

The candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exams with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as the main subjects with minimum 60% (45% for reserved category candidates) aggregate marks in three subjects altogether.


Moreover, the candidates must also have secured pass marks (both in theory and practical) in every subject mentioned above and with minimum 30% marks in English.

What is the Structure of WBJEE Board?

The WBJEE Board was structured in the year 1962 by the Government of West Bengal. It is the only entrusted organization to conduct the WBJEE 2024. The WBJEE Board consists of one Chairman and other members. 

 

What is the Process of Compiling the Merit List of WBJEE?

Generally there are two merit lists are published by the Board which are as follows:

General Merit Rank and Pharmacy Merit Rank.


GMR Rank:

GMR list is prepared on the basis of the marks of both the papers (paper 1 and paper 2)

The ranking will be done according to the descending order of total marks obtained in all the subjects. A different Merit list will also be prepared for the candidates belonging to the reserved category. Only on the basis of GMR, the counseling/seat allotment process will be done. The category ranks are derived according to the birth category information provided by the candidate at the time of filling the application.


PMR Rank:

PMR Rank is generated according to the marks secured in the paper 2. Ranking will be done according to the descending order of the marks secured in the paper 2. Similar to the GMR Rank, a different merit position will be generated for the reserved category candidates. According to the PMR Rank the admission in all the pharmacy courses are done except in the case of Jadavpur University.
