Section A - Reading 20 Marks per Term

For both the terms this section includes two reading passages.

A Factual passage 300-350 words with eight Objective Type Questions (including Multiple Choice Questions) -8 marks
A Discursive passage of 350-400 words with four Short Answer Type Questions to test inference, evaluation, and analysis and four Objective Type Questions (including Multiple Choice Questions) to test vocabulary. - 12 marks

Section B - Writing Skills and Contextual Grammar 30 Marks per Term

Writing an Informal Letter on a situation /Descriptive Paragraph (person/place/event/diary entry) in about 150-200 words. -10 marks
Writing a story based on a given theme, beginning line, etc in about 150-200 words. -10 marks
The grammar syllabus is as given below:

Tenses , Modals, Use of passive voice, Subject-verb subject-verb, verb concord , Reported speech, Commands and requests , Statements , Questions , Clauses: Noun clauses , Adverb clauses of condition and time , Relative clauses , Determiners, Prepositions

The above course of grammar to be tested through Cloze passage, Gap Filling, Editing -4marks

Dialogue Writing/ Reporting dialogue on a given theme - 6 marks

Section C - Literature 30 Marks per Term

Questions will be based on extracts from poem, prose, play to test comprehension of theme and ideas along with the use of imagination that helps extrapolate beyond the text.

The sections of literature include prose, poetry, and stories. For prose BEEHIVE – Textbook for class IX is to be used. For poetry Words and Expressions-I, Workbook has to be referred and for stories MOMENTS – Supplementary Reader for Class IX serves the purpose.

4. Will there be any Internal Assessment for the Class 9th English CBSE exam?

Yes, there will be an internal assessment that includes Listening and Speaking Competencies. Assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills will be for 05 marks. It is recommended that listening and speaking skills should be regularly practiced in the class. Art-integrated activities like Role Play, Skit, Dramatization, etc. can also be used. Activities for listening and speaking are available at www.cbseacademic.in can be used for developing the listening and speaking skills of students. The listening and speaking skills are to be assessed on the following parameters: i. Interactive competence (Initiation & turn-taking, relevance to the topic). ii.
