NCO (National Cyber Olympiad) Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme and Syllabus

National Cyber Olympiad is a national level exam conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation. Students from grade 1 to 10 can appear in this exam. The main motive of this exam is to test the knowledge of IT and computers and nurture the little scientists in the students. This test analyses their analytical and logical thinking, computer and IT skills and their mental ability. There are three sections in the National Cyber Olympiad paper: Section I - Logical Reasoning; Section II - Computers & IT; Section III - Achievers.

The students appearing in the NCO exam will get their rank based on the marks obtained by them in the exam. They will get awards and ranks in four levels - school level, city level, zonal level and international level. Let us now look at some highlights about the exam pattern.

National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) Syllabus 2023-24

Grade 1: Geometrical Shapes, Completion of Figure Pattern, Spatial Understanding, Measuring Units, Patterns, Odd One Out, Grouping of Figures.


Grade 2: General Information about Computers,Uses of Computer, Computer-a Smart Machine, Parts of Computer, Learning to use Keyboard and Mouse, recent developments in the IT field. 

Grade 3: Geometrical shapes, embedded figures,  Input and Output Devices, Coding – decoding, Fundamentals of Computers, Storage Devices, Introduction to MS-Word, Introduction to Internet, Editing commands such as- cut, copy, paste, redo, undo, mirror images, alphabet and ranking test, recent developments in the IT field. 

Grade 4: Coding-decoding, direction test, Alphabet test,embedded figures, ranking test, analogy and classification, Uses of Computer, Computer-a Smart Machine, Parts of Computer, Learning to use Keyboard and Mouse, recent developments in the IT field. 

Grade 5: Coding-decoding,  direction test, Computer Networks,mirror images, logical sequence of words, embedded figures, software, hardware, memory devices, introduction to multimedia, introduction to internet, introduction to MS- word and MS- paint, inserting headers and footers, cliparts, smart art, using windows 7 and recent developments in the IT field.

Grade 6: Types of Computers, MS-Word (Working with Charts, and Tables, Creating new slides using Slides pane, Outline pane, and Slides from Outline, Using Page Layout tab, Arranging multiple windows of a document), MS-PowerPoint,History, and Generation of Computers, Working with Handouts, and Notes Master, Creating new slides using Slides pane, Outline pane, and Slides from Outline. Working with Charts, and Tables),Hardware, Software, Introduction to QBasic,arranging multiple windows of presentations, Input & Output Devices, Internet & E-mail, Latest updates and developments in the field of IT and this section varies on the level of class.

Grade 10: Scratch, Python, HTML, Internet, Database management system, using windows 7, MS- powerpoint, MS- excel, Networking and recent developments in the IT field.

One must satisfy the eligibility criteria to appear for the SOF NCO 2023-24 exam. Following are eligibility criteria for NCO exam 2023-24:

Students can collect the NCO application form 2023-24 from the Principal, Vice Principal or teacher in-charge of their respective school. Students have to submit the complete SOF NCO form 2023-24 with the fees of Rs. 125 to their respective schools. Students can only apply for the SOF National Cyber Olympiad 2023-24 through their respective schools only no online mode is available.
