Details of NCO Exam on Vedantu

The National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) is for all students. It consists of a single-level examination. Cultivating the little scientist inside students, this test will help them identify and develop their computer skills. As part of the test, students will also be able to evaluate themselves on four levels: school, city, zone, and worldwide. The National Cyber Olympiad (SOF) is organized by the Science Olympiad Foundation. This talent-finding contest is quite popular among pupils.

How Can You Participate in the National Cyber Olympiad?

The National Cyber Olympiad, hosted by the Science Olympiad Foundation, is available to students in grades 1 through 10. Students must register through their respective schools. The SOF delivers prospectuses and registration forms to the schools that have signed up with the organization. If a school is not yet registered, they can do so by simply sending an email. The NCO for the SOF is held twice a year. Students must pay registration costs to take the exam. A student performance report is sent to each student who competes in the National Cyber Olympiad. Students' responses are thoroughly examined in the performance report. Students can identify their strengths and weaknesses through this process.

National Cyber Olympiad Eligibility Criteria

Students must be students of any recognised board, such as CBSE, ICSE, or any state boards, to compete in Science Olympiad Foundation's National Cyber Olympiad. The test is open to all students in classes 1 through 10, and no minimum score is required.

Syllabus for Class 1: 

Patterns, Figure pattern completion, measurement units (length, weight, time, and money), geometrical shapes, odd one out, Computer & IT, spatial understanding, figure grouping, analogies, ranking test.

Syllabus for Class 2:

 Patterns, measuring units, Odd one out, series completion, geometrical shapes, analogy, ranking test, coding-decoding, grouping figures, embedded figures and computer & IT.

Syllabus for Class 3: 

Coding - decoding, analogy and classification, mirror images, embedded figures, alphabet test, ranking test, grouping figures, geometrical shapes, figure matrix, possible combinations, days and dates and computer & IT.

Syllabus for Class 4: 

Alphabet test, coding-decoding, patterns, geometrical shapes, solids, direction test, mirror images, embedded figures, ranking test, days and dates and possible combinations, analogy, classification and computer & IT.

Syllabus for Class 5:

Section 1 - Reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

Section 2 - Computer & IT: History and generations of computers, types of computers, MS Windows, MS Word - Working with charts & tables, page layout, arranging multiple windows of a document; MS Powerpoint - creating a presentation using animations, custom animation, transitions, creating new slides using slides pane, outline pane and slides from an outline, working with handouts and notes master, arranging multiple windows of a presentation, working with charts and tables; internet & e-mail, introduction to QBasic, Hardware, software, Input & Output devices, Memory and Storage devices, and last but not the least latest developments in the IT sector.

Section 1 - Reasoning: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

Section 2 - Computer & IT: Fundamentals of computer, the evolution of computers, memory and storage devices, Windows 7, MS Word - Links, mail merge, macros, exploring styles group; MS Powerpoint - working with slides master and themes, advancing slides using hyperlinks and actions, customizing and broadcasting slide shows; MS Excel - Components of MS Excel, Editing and formatting cells in a worksheet, introduction to formulas, sorting and filtering data, macros, features of insert and page layout tabs; programming in QBasic, internet and viruses, networking and latest developments in the field of IT.

At School Level

  • For groups of 5 to 9 students taking the test in a class, the highest rank holder receives a gold medal.

  • For groups of 10 to 25 students taking the test in a class, a gold medal is presented to the top three students. 

  • For classes with more than 25 students taking the test, a gold medal will be awarded to the top 10% of the class's rank holders.

The Benefit of Solving a Sample Paper for NCO

Students can learn about paper design by looking at previous year's question papers. For a better understanding of the test, students should solve prior year's question papers. The value of NCO sample papers, mock exam papers, and previous year question papers is the same. Participants must go through and solve more sample papers to pass the test and achieve a good score.
