What is INMO?

INMO stands for The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad. It is one of the most prestigious examinations based on mathematics for high school students that is conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) on the behalf of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) annually in India. It is the second step that students have to qualify and only 30 students are able to make their way to the OCSC( Orientation Cum Selection Camp) for the training and only 6 of the students sit for the International Mathematical Olympiad to represent our country i.e., India.

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad is a difficult exam and requires both mathematical aptitude and a thorough knowledge of the subject.

  • Find the link on the home page for the INMO results.

  • Students will be redirected to another page. There will be a link saying INMO Result.

  • Click on the link with the list of Merit Awardees.

  • Find your roll number in the list to check your result.

INMO Syllabus

The syllabus for INMO 2021 is a class XI and XII level mathematics. The duration of the exam is four hours of written examination. Each problem requires varying levels of difficulty. A detailed year-wise analysis of INMO papers reveals that primarily six questions are given to be solved in 4 hours of time. Questions are covered from the following topics.

INMO Registration Process

The Indian National Mathematics Olympiad has no particular process for the registration. The students who are interested in participating in the INMO will first have to attempt the Regional Mathematical Olympiad test by being in the top 30 scores in his/her region.

The Regional Mathematical Olympiad test is conducted in a total of 25 regions throughout the country by three organizing authorities such as the Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE), Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS).


INMO Eligibility / Selection Criteria

  • Students qualifying for INMO are chosen based on their performance in RMO. A total of top 28 students from classes 8, 9, 10, and 11 and a total of the top 6 students from class 12 are allowed to participate in INMO in each region.

  • In the case there is a tie between scores, the PRMO score will be considered as the tiebreaker. If the PRMO score fails to break the score, the final list will be sent to HBCSE.

  • 5 students studying in Non–KV CBSE schools outside India and 5 students studying in KV schools outside India can be allowed to sit directly for the INMO examination. 

  • Five additional students who are girls and are studying in classes 8, 9, 10, and 11 are selected.

INMO Admit Card

The admit cards for the INMO examination will be issued in the month of January 2021 and the students will have to download their respective admit cards online through HBCSE official website. The INMO admit cards will not be sent to the students by post. The students not carrying their admit cards will not be allowed to sit for the exam. Students will also have to carry their school photo ID card and the INMO admit card issued to them.

  7. After the examination, students must submit their answer sheets and the rough sheet. They can retain the Question Paper.

  2. Be strict with the timing mentioned in the sample papers and base your practice around it.

  3. Being honest to yourself while solving the sample papers is very important if you want to score good marks. 

  4. Evaluate the answer sheet only when you have completed the sample paper.

  5. Look for the correct answers and practice them over and over again.

  6. Examine your weak and strong points. Work hard to improve on the weak points more and the overall performance.

Question 4) The Question in RMO will be Objective or Subjective?

Answer 4) In RMO, the question paper will be divided into two parts consisting of both objective and subjective type of questions. In the first part, 30 questions will be given to be solved in 2 hours. Next, 6 questions need to be answered in 3 hours where the students will have to write long answers.
