INMO Registration

INMO stands for India National Mathematical Olympiad, and it is an annual competition held in India. The India National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is the second rung on the ladder to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The (INMO) is conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) on behalf of the National Board of Higher Mathematical Education (NBHM). INMO's only goal is to identify and develop Mathematical potential in our country to form an exceptional team of Mathematicians for the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Participants in the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad who qualify are invited to attend a training camp at the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE), which is sponsored by the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM). Generally, 900  candidates participate in this examination and only 35 are selected from the INMO Examination stage. INMO 2023 Registration - Details

The INMO was first conducted in 1989. Nearly 45 students are selected from the INMO Examination for the International Mathematics Olympiad training camp. The INMO Examination has six very tough questions and it lasts for four hours. The students are expected to solve all these questions on the answer script and submit it along with the rough sheets at the end of the examination. The questions present in the INMO Examination are very difficult and the difficulty level increases with every stage of the Math Olympiad program.

  • Candidates should be aware that there is no specific registration process for INMO. Direct entry is granted to students who pass the early stage who are the previous year's IOQM and INMO merit awardees. Almost 900 candidates are shortlisted for the INMO Exam based on a variety of requirements.

  • If a student is serious about taking the INMO Exam and wishes to apply, he or she must first compete in the Regional Mathematics Olympiad 2023 (RMO) and place in the top 30 scorers in his or her country.

  • The three organizing bodies, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), coordinate the Regional Mathematics Olympiad in 25 regions all over the country.

The students who have participated in the regional Mathematics Olympiad and their performances in that exam decide the selection of those students in the National Mathematics Olympiad(INMO).


From every state and the union territories, a maximum of 30 students who have scored the highest marks are chosen to write the INMO Examination. The selection process of all candidates is dependent upon their performance and the marks gained by them in qualifying exams. When there is a tie-up in the RMO scores of the candidates, the Pre-Regional Mathematics Olympiad Score (PRMO) will be used as a tiebreaker to determine the winner. Once the PRMO test has been completed, a candidate who does well will be invited to take part in the INMO Exam.
