Mathematical Olympiad 2021

What is INMO Exam?

Introduction

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad. The INMO is the third stage of the HBCSE IMO. The Indian National Olympiad is very well known to be the mathematical competition for the high school that is held annually in India. The INMO examination is known to be the second stage in the Indian team selection procedure for the International Mathematical Olympiad. The INMO examination is conducted every year by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).

The candidates who qualify for the INMO exam get a golden opportunity to go to the training camp at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), which is sponsored by the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM). At the college level, the International Math Olympiad is known to be one of the most prestigious examinations. Six of the most talented students in the field of mathematics who have been tested by various exams are given the opportunity to represent our country among nearly a hundred competing countries at the International Math Olympiad. These six students are tested at every level and they solve very hard problems to get a gold medal in Mathematics. These selected students are usually selected through a national level olympiad held in the respective countries.

The Indian National Maths Olympiad (INMO) is a stage that is used to select candidates for the International Math Olympiad that is INMO is considered to be the gateway for IMO. Thousands of students participate in the INMO examination and only 30 candidates are shortlisted from all over the country. After successfully passing the INMO examination, the selected candidates are then trained at the IMOTC (International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp), and after the training six best candidates are chosen to represent our country at the international level. INMO is a very competitive exam and it requires that the student have in-depth knowledge of the topics in the syllabus.

In this, we are going to explain what INMO is, how the candidates can register, the exam instructions, eligibility criteria for the INMO 2021 examination, and the complete syllabus.

Restrictions on Senior Year Students

What is INMO 2021?

Since 1989, the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad(INMO) has been conducted every year. Every year thousands of students participate in the INMO examination and only forty-five students are selected from the INMO examination for the International Mathematics Olympiad Training Camp(IMOTC).INMO exam lasts for about four hours and has six very difficult questions. The questions need to be solved on the answer sheet and should be submitted along with the rough sheet to the exam invigilator. Compared to RMO the difficulty level of this examination is more as there are only six questions but all six questions are very difficult to solve as it requires that the candidate should know the syllabus completely. The candidates who are able to clear the INMO examination will receive a certificate and also will be invited to the training camp at the HBCSE Mumbai with all the expenses of lodging and boarding of the training done by the government. The candidates who are able to qualify for the NHBM will only be eligible to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The ministry of the HRD is responsible for providing the fair for the international tickets. A team with six students is selected for the global competition and to represent India at the international level.

The key highlights of the INMO 2021 examination are given below:

INMO is conducted or organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education-Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. INMO is considered to be the third stage of the International Mathematics Olympiad program. The exam is conducted on an offline mode and the duration of the examination is offline or the pen-paper mode.28 students are eligible for the INMO examination from classes 8,9,10 and 11 and only 6 students are eligible from class 12.

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad(INMO) was already conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under the sponsorship of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM).INMO was the third stage as the students who cleared the IOQM were shortlisted to appear for the INMO this year.

INMO 2021 Eligibility Criteria

  • To select the students for the INMO examination, the performance of the students in stage 2 (RMO) is highly considered. From classes 8,9,10 and 11th, a maximum of the top 28 students are selected and only the top 6 students are selected from the class 12th to participate in the INMO examination.

  • The PRMO scores of the students will be used as a tiebreaker if there is a case of a tie between the students who have the same marks. If in case the PRMO score cannot help in breaking the score, the final list which is sent to HBCSE will consist of all such candidates.

  • Only five students will be selected from the Non-KV CBSE schools outside India. A maximum of only five students from the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools outside India will be selected to appear directly for the INMO examination. Note that only CBSE and KVS are responsible for selecting the students from the Non-KV CBSE and KVS schools outside India.

  • Excluding each region’s students, additionally, only five girls are selected from the students studying in the classes 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th.

INMO 2021 Registration

  • The candidates have to note down that there is no particular registration process for INMO. Direct entry is given to the students who clear the early stage which are IOQM and INMO merit awardees from the previous year. Based on various criteria almost nine hundred students are shortlisted for the INMO examination.

  • A student who is really interested in the INMO exam and wants to participate will have to first take and qualify for the Regional Mathematics Olympiad 2021 (RMO) by finishing in the top 30 scorers in his or her region.

  • The Regional Mathematics Olympiad is organized in 25 regions all across the country by the three conducting authorities namely the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS).

INMO 2021 Sample Papers

  • INMO question papers are very important for the candidates when preparing for the third stage of the HBCSE IMO examination. Students who are participating in the INMO 2021 examination are advised to practice the previous years’ INMO papers at least for the last two years. If there is enough time left for the candidates to prepare for the exam then they are advised to go through and practice the last ten years’ question papers.

  • Practising the question papers will only help the candidates to understand the difficulty level of the exam and also to analyze the type of questions that would be asked in the INMO examination. Reviewing the previous year’s question papers will help the candidates to clarify any doubt related to the subject and will them an idea of what can be expected from the examination.

  • Practising the sample papers of the INMO 2021 examination could be a game-changer for many candidates as it will guide them through the important aspects of the examination.

  • The questions that are asked in the INMO examination are comparatively more advanced than the last two stages. Although the questions are asked based on the fundamental concepts, the students are expected to apply their analytical skills and logical reasoning to solve the questions.

  • It is very necessary that the candidates practice the sample papers to better understand the exam pattern, mark distribution, and difficulty level of the examination.
