The International English Olympiad exam is an English Language and Grammar exam conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundations in collaboration with the British Council. This exam is formulated only for the school going students from class 1 to class 12. The students participating in the examination find themselves giving exams on two levels i.e., level 1 and level 2. The results of the examinations judge a student on 4 different difficulty levels i.e., school level, city level, state level, and international level.
Only the school students of 1 to 12 who are interested in taking their IEO exams must follow these procedures.
Interested students can apply only if their school register themselves with SOF. This registration will provide the school, a prospectus that contains the registration form. The coordinating teacher of the school is responsible for giving the registration forms to all the interested students.
Schools that do not register with the SOF also get a chance to get their hands on the prospectus if they contact the SOF through phone or by e-mail.
The students who received the registration form are to fill the form and submit it back to the school.
After all the students have submitted their form, the school sends back all the forms to SOF before the due date.
The interested student should be enrolled in a school that is registered with SOF.
The student should be in or between class 1 to class 12.
A student must submit the completely filled application form along with the due fees.
There is also a fee structure for all the applicants. For Indian Schools, students have to pay INR 125 (including GST) as the registration fee per student. For International Schools, students have to pay USD 9 per student.
SOF conducts exams on two-level i.e., level 1 and level 2. Students who get through the first level get the chance to take the exam of level 2. The examination is conducted in English only and follows ICSE/ISC, CBSE, and state board syllabus.
Students are given 1 hour to complete the exam during school hours only. For class 1 to 4, the questions consist of 35 MCQs, and from class 5 to 12, 50 MCQs are asked. The paper is divided into 4 sections. The question of Word and structure knowledge are asked in the first section. The second section consists of reading, spoken, and writing expressions in the third section, and the achiever’s section is the fourth section.
Students who qualify their level 1 exam with excellent performance become eligible for level 2 examination. Top 5% of students class wise are selected from level 1, 25 rank holders, class-wise, and zone wise from level 1 are selected. And the ones who scored 50% in level 1 get to level 2.
