Chapter 6 – Peasants and Farmers
In the previous two chapters, you’ve studied about pastures and forests and about the group of people depending on these sources but here, you’ll be studying about peasants and farmers with the special focus on three different countries namely small cottagers in England, wheat farmers of the USA and opium producers of Bengal. The chapter begins with England where the agricultural revolution first occurred. Here, you’ll find what happens to the different rural groups with the introduction of modern agriculture and what actually happens when different parts of the world are integrated with the capitalist world market. Chapter 7 – History and Sport – The Story of Cricket
Cricket was played in England 500 years ago, under a variety of rules. This chapter basically deals with the early version of the cricket and how it grew into a modern game played in the giant stadiums. This chapter will take you through the evolution of cricket as a game in England and discuss the wider culture of physical training at that time. Then the chapter will move to India and discuss the adoption of cricket in this country. The journey finally ends with tracing the modern transformation of the game. The chapter includes 5 questions.
Chapter 7 – Clothing – A Social History
All societies observe certain rules about the way in which men, women, and children should dress or how different social classes should present themselves in front of others.
