Chapter 2

A Gift of Chappals

It is a heart-warming story of Mridu who visited Rukku Manni’s house where her cousin Ravi kept a kitten secretly. This story tells that people should practise what they preach. At the end of the story, students will learn that Mridu and her cousin named that kitten Manhendraverma Pallava Poonai. 

 

The Rebel

This poem of NCERT honeycomb Class 7 gives an account of a rebel who does not abide by the rules of society and does exactly the opposite of what others are doing. For example, if he sees a person with long hair, he will cut his hair short and so on. 

 

Chapter 3

Gopal and the Hilsa Fish

The Ashes That Made Trees Bloom 

William Eliot Griffins wrote this prose, and it recounts the story of an honest Japanese couple who had a pet dog named Muko. Unfortunately, because of their heartless and cruel neighbors, the dog lost its life. However, later on, the spirit of the dog consoled them in every possible way. 

 

This story of Class 7th NCERT English Book will teach students that the people are known for their deeds, good or bad. 

 

Chivvy 

This poem aptly captures how children perceive their elders. The poet used to think as a child, why the elders always instruct children and make them do things according to their will. For the poet, it became really irritating at times, and he wished that the elders should not give suggestions to children at all. 

 

Chapter 5

Quality 

This is a story of a German shoemaker, Mr Gessler, who is regarded as the best shoemaker of the town. He used the best quality leather to make shoes and never compromised on that. Two brothers ran the shoe shop, but despite their superior quality product, they had a very small customer base. The reason behind that was their inability to advertise their product. However, they believed that selling good quality shoes is a work of art and not a mere business. 

 

Trees 

The fifth poem of NCERT Class 7 English textbook discusses trees and their significance in our life. Through this poem, the poet pays homage to the trees that provide us with all the necessary products like wood, fruits, flowers, etc. 

 

Chapter 6

Expert Detectives 

It is a story about two children, Maya and Nishad, who were curious about their neighbor, Mr Nath. While Maya considered him to be an evil person, Nishad thought of him as a poor and ill person, suffering from a financial crisis. They were always on the lookout to find out his real identity. They finally got their chance when their marble reached Mr Nath’s room. The following incidents unfold his real identity.

 

Mystery of the Talking Fan 

Written by Maude Rubin, this poem of Class 7 English Book NCERT emphasizes on an otherwise mundane object like a ceiling fan. For him, being an ordinary thing, we do not always value its presence. But in reality, it has now become a necessity for us. He even compares the sound of the fan with human conversation. However, unlike human chatter, its sound does not make any sense to anyone.

The Invention of Vita-Wonk

It is an amusing poem of how the father of the poet struggled to save a cat that got stuck on the tree. He fell several times but was determined to save the poor cat. However, finally, when he was about to reach the cat, it jumped off the tree safely and ran away. 

 

Chapter 8

Fire: Friend and Foe

The eighth chapter of NCERT honeycomb Class 7 documents the necessity of fire and how humans use it for various purposes. The prose goes back to ancient times when humans discovered fire and considered it as frightening and perilous. Over the years, we found out that it is a chemical reaction. 

 

This story hinted at the constructive and destructive nature of fire, and it should be kept under control. Finally, it ends with a lesson on how to distinguish fire with a carbon dioxide extinguisher and the role of fire-fighters. 

 

Meadow Surprises 

Through this poem, the poet conveys a profound message that beauty depends on the beholder. For him, a meadow has its own beauty which people often fail to see. He further adds that meadows are full of surprises, and it has surprises for every individual. 

 

Chapter 9

A Bicycle in Good Repair 

This piece of NCERT books for Class 7 English narrates an unusual incident. The writer tells us that one day one of his friends gave him a proposal to go on a long bicycle ride, and the writer accepted that. However, on the day of riding, the writer’s friend came late, and the writer saw something unusual about that bicycle. When he touched it, it fell apart. However, in the end, they successfully repaired this bicycle and resumed their ride.  

 

Garden Snake

The Story of Cricket

Chapter 1: The Tiny Teacher

It is a story of a homeless person, Soapy who is in search of a home as winter is approaching. For that, he planned to do something so that cops arrested him and sent him to the jail of Blackwell’s Island. In this way, he will at least ensure shelter for the next three months. 

 

Therefore, he did his best to get arrested by making several nuisances, but all went into vain. Finally, when he realized his wrongdoings and wanted to get back to his normal life and earn respectfully, the cops arrested him and sent to jail for three months.

Chapter 5: Golu Grows a Nose 

It is a fascinating story of how elephants got their trunks. As this prose of Class 7th English Book NCERT suggests, earlier the elephants did not have a trunk. Then it goes on to narrate the story of Golu, a baby elephant who was inquisitive in nature and went on a journey to find the answers to its questions. 

 

But during its journey, it met a crocodile who attacked it to devour it. But fortunately, Golu’s friend, a python, saved its life by pulling him by his nose. As a result, Golu’s nose stretched and became five feet long and remained like that only. From that day, elephants got their trunks which they use for several activities. 

 

Chapter 6: I Want Something in a Cage 

This prose of NCERT Class 7th English Book revolves around a pet shop of Mr Purcell. In the pet shop, he had all kinds of birds and animals, and the shop was noisy all the time due to their shrieks, shouts, etc. One day a strange man came to his shop and asked for an animal which would give him a sense of freedom. So Mr Purcell advised him to buy a pair of doves. The buyer bought them and soon after released them into the sky. Seeing this, Mr Purcell was stunned and insulted at the same time.  

 

Then it is revealed that the buyer was a prisoner for a long time, and thus he knows the value of freedom. 

 

Chapter 7: Chandni 

This story of Class 7th NCERT English Book teaches a valuable lesson of life that everyone should opt for freedom even if it costs them their life. This story is set in Almora where Abbu Khan, an older man, lived with his pet goats. No matter how hard he tries, the goats always end up escaping to the top of the hill. 

 

Frustrated with this nuisance, Abbu Khan bought a new and younger goat, thinking that it will not leave him. He named this goat Chandni.

 

However, when it grew up, it did not want to live a confined life. So one day she escaped as well and had a great free day on the hilltop. At night a wolf came to eat her, but Chandni said it would fight no matter what to retain its freedom. In the end, Chandni died in the fight. 

 

Even though Chandni was defeated and killed, she was the actual winner, as she never gave up on her freedom to go back to her confined life.

 

Chapter 8: The Bear Story 

It is a thrilling story of a lady and a bear. A lady once found a bear cub and took her home. She raised the bear just like a dog. Therefore, it never harmed humans or beasts. It was even trained not to touch beehives. However, the lady used to chain it at night.

 

One day when this lady went to the jungle, she saw that the bear neither was wearing its collar nor it listened to her. Instead, it disobeyed her and disappeared into the jungle. This made the lady really angry and decided to punish her when she would return home. 

 

However, on returning it was revealed that her bear was at home all day, waited for her and she met another bear in the jungle. 

 

This story of NCERT books for Class 7 English also contains an exercise for students to solve. 

 

Chapter 9: A Tiger in the House

In this story of NCERT Class 7th English Book, the author narrates a story of how his grandfather once found a tiger cub and brought it home and named it Timothy. The grandfather raised it, and it became a member of the household. But one day he realized that Timothy should not belong there, and so he decided to live at a zoo in Lucknow. 

 

He did so, and after six months he went to revisit Timothy. On reaching, he petted it, and it also licked his hand, while the zoo guards saw the scene from a distance, terrified. However, finally, they revealed that Timothy had died last month of pneumonia and the one he petted was another bad-tempered tiger who came there last month. It only smelt its new food and grandfather withdrew his hands immediately.  

 

Chapter 10: An Alien Hand 

The final chapter of NCERT books for Class 7 English gives an account of earth’s Viking mission on Mars to find whether that planet has the water or any traces of life or not. The students will stay glued to this text because of its engaging tone and detailed description of NASA’s expedition to Mars.
