Hint: Recall that velocity is defined as the rate of change of position of an object or a body with respect to time. It is a vector quantity. Because it specifies both the speed of the body and the direction of the motion of the body. The S.I. unit of velocity is metre per second.
Complete step by step solution:
Suppose that the distance between Chennai and Hyderabad is $ = x$
Then the average velocity of Akhil and Santosh is given by formula
$v = \dfrac{x}{t}$---(i)
Where v is the velocity
And t is the time taken
Both Akhil and Santosh cover equal distance while travelling to Chennai from Hyderabad, but the time taken by Akhil is $10hours$ which is less as compared to the time taken by Santosh who takes $12hours$ to cover the same distance.
Since it is clear from equation (i) that the velocity is inversely proportional to time. Since the time taken by Akhil is less, the average velocity of Akhil will be more than the average velocity of Santosh.
$\therefore $ The above given statement is true.
Option A is the right answer.
Note: It is important to remember that the average velocity of an object is defined as the ratio of total displacement covered by the body to the total time taken to cover that distance. It is completely different from average speed. Since average speed is the total distance covered while average velocity is the total displacement. Average speed is a scalar quantity while average velocity is a vector quantity.
