Govt College of Engineering Pune was initially known as “Poona Engineering Class and School”. It is the third oldest technical institute in the Indian subcontinent which was established by the British in the year 1854. Earlier, it was affiliated to the University of Mumbai and then later on, it was brought into permanent affiliation with the University of Pune. In 2003, it was granted freedom to set its own curriculum and manage its own finances.
