It is present in tendons, ligaments, the connective tissue of skin dermis, cartilage, and dentin which are formed of inelastic fibres with high tensile strength. The collagen protein is formed of a triple helix and has a mesh-like dermis network. A triple helix is formed of two identical chains and a third chain. In collagen total of three amino acids are presently named as glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.
Procollagen is the precursor of collagen found in the body that is made by mixing the two amino acids glycine and proline.
