Hint:In order to answer this question, we should first understand the meaning of diode and transistor. A diode is an electrical component which will let the current flow in only one direction and a transistor is a semiconductor device which can be used to amplify electrical signals and power. The transistor is one of the basic building blocks of electronics.
Complete answer:
A diode is a two-terminal electronic component which conducts electric current mainly in one direction. It offers very less resistance in one direction and very high resistance in the other direction. Two diodes that are connected back to back cannot be used as a transistor. A PN diode will have equal doping on two sides, but in the case of a transistor, the base must have the least doping level and the emitter should be doped highly.
By joining the two diodes we can make the base size larger than the emitter and the collector. For a transistor, the size of the base should be the least. And the transistor is monolithic, it cannot be constructed by connecting two diodes.
Therefore, two diodes cannot be used as a transistor.
Note: It is important to note that the main function of a diode is to let electric current to pass in one direction which is known as the diode's forward direction and also blocking the flow of current in the opposite direction which is the reverse direction. A current or voltage is applied to a pair of transistor’s terminals to control the current through the other pair of terminals.
