What is the D10 Countries’ Strategy Forum?

D10 is referred to as an initiative that was taken in the year 2008 by the US department of state policy planning. This initiative was then adopted in the year 2014 by the Atlantic Council who then established the initiative to maintain “a rule-based democratic order” that was channelized under the ruling of the ten democratic countries that are referred to as D10 countries. What is the D10 Group of Countries?

The proposal of the D10 countries was put forward by the Britan that also wanted to club India, Australia, and South Korea along with the existing G7 countries, namely, UK, USA, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, and Canada. The main motive to create a group of democratic countries’ group under the title of D10 countries is to create an alternative 5G technologies and types of equipment so that the sole dependency on China for the 5G technologies and gadgets can be broken and the monopoly of the country over this technology can be brought to an end.

Mainly the United Kingdom is on the lookout to establish a new alliance with ten 5G countries who can alliance against China so that they can reduce the world market dependency on Beijing for 5G technology especially the one that is offered by the giant telecom industry of china named Huawei. Thus Britain is being planned to club the three countries with the already existing seven 5G companies to create an alternative 5G technology so as to break the monopoly of China in supplying the vital and major technologies.

The development of the D10 companies came into play after Britain has launched a probe against Huawei’s involvement in the up-gradation of the mobile networks in Britain that is considered as a vital issue concerning the country’s security post the sanction against the telecom company by the United States. This proposal of Britain has already been shared with Washington DC of the United States. The major challenge that is faced by all the democratic countries now is the viability of the 5G technologies that can only be provided by Nokia and Ericsson but both the companies are not capable of offering the 5G technology as fast and as cheap as Huawei.

The decision to unite all the nations against China came to post the breakout of the Covid-19 virus that is believed to have been artificially generated in the central city of China, Wuhan. The countries that were severely affected by this pandemic, especially, Europe held China and its Communist Government accountable for the breakout of the virus in multiple nations. The government of China was accused of concealing the news about the spread of this unknown virus strain in Wuhan much earlier. Thus the members of D10 countries are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, United States, United Kingdom, and European Union. The countries that are observers are Indonesia, Poland, and Spain.
