NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is a prestigious examination that holds the motive of providing scholarships to desirable students. It is conducted every year by the NCERT all over India. In order to attain the scholarship, the students are required to clear two exams,- stage I and Stage II. Only the successful candidates who are able to clear the first stage are eligible to appear for the second stage.

NTSE Scholarship

A total of around 2000 scholarships are distributed for each stage of education. These stages include:

  • Students in class XI and  XII, a scholarship of Rs 1250 is rewarded every month.

  • For students pursuing under-graduation and postgraduate, a scholarship of Rs 2000 is awarded every month.

  • For students pursuing a Ph.D., a fixed scholarship amount is provided in accordance with the UGC norms. 


How To Fill Online Application Form For NTSE Stage 1 

Most states release the online application forms for NTSE through their official websites. Students with the required eligibility criteria can fill this form online. The steps to fill the form are given below;

  • Visit the SCERT website of the respective state and union territory that the student wishes to take the exam from. 

  • Click on the NTSE section that is visible on the home page and go ahead and click on the NTSE 2020-21 application form. 

  • Enter the required details.

  • Upload the scanned photograph, signature file, and other documents that are asked for.

  • Pay the application fee.

  • Download the NTSE application form that you have just filled and submit it to the school.

  • The Head/ Principal will review the form and if eligible, will proceed forward and send it to the State Liaison Officer.

1. What does the stage 1 ( MAT) question paper consist of?

The MAT  question paper presents questions that deal with analytical and logical reasoning. This section focuses on testing and evaluating the ability of the student to answer and solve reasoning questions. It also focuses on evaluating their skills to think, evaluate and visualize. This question paper demands the students to answer questions dealing with series, pattern perception. Coding-decoding, analogies, problem-solving, hidden figures, etc. 

2. What does the Stage II (SAT) question paper consist of?

The paper for SAT  contains  100 questions, divided into questions dealing with Science (40 marks), Social Science (40 Marks), and mathematics (20 marks).to solve this paper effortlessly, the student must be well prepared with the concepts taught in class 9th and 10th. The total time that the student receives to complete this paper is a total of 120  minutes.

3. What are the eligibility criteria for applying for the stage 1 examination?

In order to apply for the stage 1 examination, the following things are to be followed:

  • The student must be studying in class 10th in any government or private school in India

  • The student can belong from any Indian State or Union territory.

  • The students who are studying in open or in distance can also be eligible to appear for the examination. But they need to be below the age of 18 and should be appearing for the 10th examination. 

4. What are the eligibility criteria for candidates from abroad?

Indian students who are studying abroad can also apply for the NTSE examination. They can sit for the stage 2 examination directly without appearing for the stage 1 exam. But in order to be able to do this, the candidate must have scored 60 percent and more in their previous year’s annual examination. Apart from this, the student wanting to sit for the exam should be present in the center allotted to them in India. And once they receive the scholarship, they should continue their higher education in India. 

5. What is the marking scheme of NTSE examinations?

The marking scheme that the NTSE examinations follow are in the following fashion:

  • Correct answer= 1 mark. Students score 1 mark for every right answer without any negative marking for the wrong answers in the stage 1 exam.

  • The candidates who manage to pass the part I examination are eligible to appear for the Stage 2 examination. The marking scheme for this examination differs from the stage 1 examination. This is because, for every wrong attempt, the candidate loses one-third of the marks, though there is no negative marking if the student leaves a question.
