1. Are Pre-RMO and RMO exams the same? If not, then what is the difference?
Ans: Pre-RMO and RMO are both part of the Indian team selection procedure for the Mathematical Olympiad Programme (MOP). Indian team selection procedure for MOP is a 5 stage process, the first stage is PRMO, and the Second one is the RMO. The full form of PRMO is Pre Regional Mathematical Olympiad, It is a preliminary round for candidates to enter RMO (Regional Mathematical Olympiad).
Pre RMO exam is conducted by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MTA), under the supervision of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), but the RMO is organised directly by HBCSE.
2. What is the marking scheme used in the Pre-RMO exam?
Ans: One can easily be able to understand the marking pattern for the Pre-RMO exam, properly by solving the Pre-RMO sample paper, which is given above. As from the previous year’s question paper, The exam consists of 30 questions, in which the first 7 questions will be of 2 marks each, the next 15 questions of 3 marks each, and the last 8 of them worth 5 marks each. Ans: The Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) exam covers various topics from pre-university Maths. But the most important of those topics are considered to be Algebra, Geometry, Number theory and Combinatorics. These four chapters should be given utmost priority and the participating student must get a hold of these topics. But by no means should we forget the other ones, they are important too. One more thing to note is that Statics and Calculus will not be covered in the Pre RMO exam.
4. How difficult is the Pre RMO exam?
Ans: Indian Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is considered to be one of the toughest Maths exams. Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) being its first stage is also quite difficult. The questions covered in PRMO are much more difficult than what you get in school books or school papers, so the student should work hard on their analytical reasoning skills. But if you love mathematics, then the exam should not be too difficult for you. The Pre RMO Sample papers, available on our website, can also help you to increase your confidence.
