Tamil Nadu MBBS Admission 2023-24

Tamil Nadu offers admission to its medical colleges for aspiring candidates through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Candidates who want to pursue the undergraduate courses of MBBS and BDS in the medical colleges of Tamil Nadu are suggested to fill out the application form after NEET 2023 results. The form for Tamil Nadu medical admission 2023 will be available on the official websites tentatively from June first week. The merit list for counselling sessions in Tamil Nadu will be prepared by the state counselling committee keeping in view the results of NEET 2023. 

Tamil Nadu MBBS Admission 2023- Important Details

The counselling procedure for TN medical admission will be conducted by the governing body of the Directorate of Medical Education after the NEET 2023 results are published. Candidates qualifying for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test cut-off percentile can apply for the counselling procedure of MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu. Both the government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu take part in the counselling procedure. 

The total number of seats allotted for MBBS admissions is 7400 and that for the BDS courses is 2873. The NEET Tamil Nadu state quota counselling committee will determine the cut-off scores, opening and closing ranks for 85% of the seats in medical and dental colleges. 

Tamil Nadu Medical Admission- Application Form

The NEET 2023 cut-off percentile and score will be mentioned on the scorecard of each candidate. Those candidates who will qualify for the NEET 2023 cut-off may fill in the form for Tamil Nadu medical admission online. It is suggested that qualifying candidates should fill in the form and get all the registration procedures done well before the last date, so as to avoid any confusion or server issues. • Candidates will have to sign up and complete the registration process for Tamil Nadu medical admission on the official website.

• After the registration process is done, candidates will have to log in with their registered credentials and fill in the other details.

After the submission of the TN medical admission application form, candidates are requested to take a printout of the same for further processing. The fee payable for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu government colleges is 500 INR. The fee payable for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu private colleges or for the medical seats through management quota is 1000 INR. 

Mandatory Documents for Tamil Nadu Medical Admission 2023

Candidates applying for the MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu should send hard copies of their application forms and the other required documents to the official address of the Directorate of Medical Education. The final deadline for sending the application form and the documents to the Directorate of Medical Education will be notified on the official website. 

The following documents are Mandatory to be sent to the Directorate of Medical Education by the Final Deadline.

• A photocopy of the class 10 mark sheet.

• A photocopy of the class 11 mark sheet.

• A photocopy of the class 12 mark sheet.

• A printout of the NEET 2023 admit card.

• A printout of the NEET 2023 scorecard. 

• Transfer certificate from the previous school.

• Candidates who had done their schooling outside Tamil Nadu will have to provide a nativity certificate.

Any discrepancy in the above-mentioned mandatory documents will lead to the cancellation of candidature for the MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu.    

Merit List of Tamil Nadu Medical Admission

Candidates meeting the cut-off score of NEET 2023 may apply for the counselling process of MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu after the results. The state counselling committees will publish the merit lists for each session of TN medical admission. Candidates can check their names, All India Rank for NEET 2023, roll numbers, NEET 2023 scores, and their merit rank for the state of Tamil Nadu on the merit list. The counselling slots for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu government colleges as well as private colleges will be decided based on the state merit ranks of candidates.  

Eligibility Criteria for Tamil Nadu Medical Admission 2023

There are 49 medical colleges and 29 dental colleges that participated in the counselling for Tamil Nadu MBBS admission 2019. Along with the eligibility criteria of NEET 2023, qualifying candidates will have to meet the eligibility criteria for TN medical admission. The eligibility criteria for TN medical admission are enlisted below.

• Candidate has to provide a Government ID corroborating his/her Indian citizenship.

• Candidates have to provide a certificate of being a bonafide citizen of Tamil Nadu.

• Candidates have to provide age proof stating that their age is within the range of 17 and 25 years. For candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC categories, the age limit is from 17 years to 30 years. 

• Candidates must have taken up Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects in their 10+2 level. Candidates having Biotechnology in their 10+2 level will also be eligible for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu. Also, English should be another main subject in their 10+2 exam.

Even though the candidates are required to meet the NEET 2023 cut-off score requirements, for TN medical admission, they also need to meet the criteria of 10+2 scores. The below table lists the 10+2 board exam score requirements for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from the merit lists for 85% of seats in the state colleges, candidates from outside the state may also apply for BDS and MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu through the open category for the 15% of All India Quota seats.
