NEET UG Merit List 2026 PDF download - How to Check the Rank?

The NEET merit list 2026 is the official rank list released by the NTA along with the NEET UG result. It ranks every qualified candidate by All India Rank (AIR) and decides who is eligible for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and BVSc admission through counselling. State authorities have begun publishing their 85% state quota merit lists.

NTA transfers the qualified candidates' data to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), which conducts AIQ counselling through the MCC. DGHS then forwards the same data to state and Union Territory counselling authorities, who prepare separate state-wise merit lists using domicile and state-specific reservation rules. This is why your All India Rank and your state rank will not be the same number.

This page covers the NEET 2026 merit list release dates, how to download the AIR and state-wise rank list PDFs, category-wise cutoffs, the exact tie-breaking order NTA uses, and what happens after your name appears on the list.

NEET 2026 Merit List Cutoff Marks

The Re NEET 2026 cutoff represents the minimum qualifying percentile and corresponding score required to become eligible for the NEET UG counselling process. Candidates who achieve or exceed the prescribed cutoff for their category are included in the NEET 2026 merit list.

However, qualifying the cutoff does not guarantee admission to a medical college, as seat allotment depends on factors such as the candidate's All India Rank (AIR), category, seat availability, and counselling preferences.

The table below shows the NEET 2026 qualifying cutoff percentile and cutoff marks for different categories.

Types of NEET 2026 Merit Lists

The NEET 2026 merit list ranks qualified candidates according to their performance in the entrance examination. Since NEET counselling is conducted at both national and state levels, candidates may receive different ranks depending on the counselling quota and the type of merit list.

NTA prepares the NEET 2026 All India Merit List for all candidates who appeared for the examination, irrespective of their category, state, or participation in the 15% All India Quota. It also prepares the merit list for candidates eligible for AIQ counselling and shares the required candidate data with the Directorate General of Health Services for the counselling process.

State counselling authorities separately prepare state-wise merit lists using NEET scores and candidate details provided by NTA. These lists are used for admission to medical and dental seats available under the respective state counselling quotas.

NEET UG 2026 All India Merit List and AIR

The NEET UG 2026 All India Merit List contains the overall ranking of candidates based on their NEET scores. The rank assigned through this list is known as the All India Rank (AIR).

AIR indicates a candidate’s position among all candidates who appeared for NEET across India. It is calculated independently of the candidate’s state rank or All India Quota rank and is commonly used to compare overall examination performance.

NEET 2026 All India Quota Merit List

The NEET 2026 All India Quota Merit List includes candidates eligible to participate in counselling for seats available under the 15% All India Quota.

The Medical Counselling Committee conducts the AIQ counselling process using candidate data shared by the designated authorities. Seat allotment is based on factors such as AIQ rank, category, college preferences, seat availability, and the counselling rules applicable to each round.

Candidates must register separately for AIQ counselling and complete the required choice-filling and document-verification processes to be considered for seat allotment.

NEET 2026 State-Wise Merit List

The NEET 2026 state-wise merit list is prepared by the counselling authority of each state. It includes candidates eligible to participate in counselling for medical and dental seats available under the state quota.

A candidate’s state rank may depend on:

  • NEET score and All India Rank

  • State domicile requirements

  • Category and reservation rules

  • Eligibility conditions prescribed by the state

  • Availability of seats under the state quota

Candidates seeking admission through a state quota must submit a separate counselling application to the relevant state authority. Eligible candidates are then included in the state merit list and called for counselling according to their rank.

The NEET state merit list may differ from the All India Merit List because it includes only candidates eligible for counselling in that particular state. Therefore, a candidate may have an AIR, an AIQ rank, and a separate state rank for the same examination.

NEET 2026 Rank List PDF

The NEET 2026 rank list PDF will be released by the National Testing Agency after the declaration of the NEET UG result. It contains important candidate details such as roll number, qualifying status, marks, percentile, and All India Rank. Candidates who qualify for the examination can use their result and rank details while participating in the applicable counselling process.

The NEET merit list and rank details should be checked carefully, as admission eligibility and seat allotment depend on the candidate’s rank, category, counselling quota, college preferences, and seat availability.

NEET 2026 Merit List Tie-Breaking Criteria

When two or more candidates obtain the same marks in the NEET UG 2026 examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) applies a predefined tie-breaking policy to determine the order of merit. The candidate who satisfies the highest-priority criterion is placed higher in the NEET 2026 merit list.

The tie is resolved using the following sequence:

  1. Higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) are given the highest priority.

  1. If the tie still exists, the candidate with higher marks in Chemistry is ranked higher.

  1. If the tie remains unresolved, higher marks in Physics are considered.

  1. Next, preference is given to the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers across all subjects.

  1. If the tie continues, the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) is ranked higher.

  1. If candidates are still tied, the lower proportion of incorrect answers in Chemistry is considered.

  1. If required, the lower proportion of incorrect answers in Physics is used as the next criterion.

  1. If all the above criteria fail to break the tie, the ranking is determined through a random selection process under the supervision of an independent expert committee.

Note: The tie-breaking criteria are applied only when two or more candidates secure identical NEET scores. The final merit order determined after applying these rules is used during the counselling and seat allotment process.
