NEET 2026 Merit List Tie-Breaking Criteria
When two or more candidates obtain the same marks in the NEET UG 2026 examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) applies a predefined tie-breaking policy to determine the order of merit. The candidate who satisfies the highest-priority criterion is placed higher in the NEET 2026 merit list.
The tie is resolved using the following sequence:
Higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) are given the highest priority.
If the tie still exists, the candidate with higher marks in Chemistry is ranked higher.
If the tie remains unresolved, higher marks in Physics are considered.
Next, preference is given to the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers across all subjects.
If the tie continues, the candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) is ranked higher.
