Important Highlights for MBBS Counselling Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is one of the participating states in the counselling of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The counselling process for MBBS and BDS courses in the government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu for NEET 2020, is tentatively scheduled to begin in the last week of August, 2020. The Directorate of Medical Education and Training of Tamil Nadu will be releasing the official list for seat allotment based on the All India quota and State quota NEET cut-offs. The seat allotment list will be available on the MBBS counselling date 2020 for Tamil Nadu.


Depending on the seat availability in government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu, the number of sessions of MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu will be announced. Mostly there are two sessions and the seat allotments for private colleges are carried out in the final session. The counselling process for the medical and dental colleges of Tamil Nadu will be conducted offline and aspiring candidates are suggested to check the venue and timing for counselling prior to the commencement of the process. The details regarding the venue and schedule for MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu will be published on the official website of Directorate of Medical Education and Training of Tamil Nadu. 


About MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu- 2020

The TN MBBS allotted list for the courses of MBBS and BDS in government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu will be determined based upon the NEET 2020 cut-off marks. Candidates appearing for NEET 2020 will be able to find the cut-off score and percentile on their NEET 2020 score cards. Candidates aspiring to pursue the Undergraduate courses of MBBS and BDS in the medical colleges of Tamil Nadu will have to apply for the MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu if they clear the NEET 2020 cut-off percentile. It is most likely that a cut-off percentile of 50 will be set as the eligibility criteria for MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu colleges. No other state level exams are conducted for enrollment into MBBS and BDS courses of Tamil Nadu colleges. The community wise medical seats in Tamil Nadu will also be released in the merit list during the counselling sessions. 


The medical and dental colleges of Tamil Nadu has a total of 15% reservation in the All India Quota seats. Rest of the 85% seats will be alloted to qualifying candidates through the MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu.

 

Documents required for MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu

All the candidates who will be shortlisted for the medical and dental counselling in Tamil Nadu will be able to find their call letters on the official website of state counselling of Tamil Nadu before the counselling session. Qualifying candidates will have to download the call letters from the website and furnish the same on the day of counselling.

The following documents are required to be furnished by the shortlisted candidates for the process of counselling in Tamil Nadu.

  • The 10th board marksheet of the candidate.

  • The 12th board marksheet or equivalent degree certificate of the candidate.

  • Aadhar card of the candidate.

  • In case the candidate has been enrolled in any other degree course, the candidate will have to furnish a bonafide certificate from the current institution.

  • A transfer certificate from the last institution.

  • Candidate’s hall ticket of NEET 2020.

  • Candidate’s score card of NEET 2020.

  • Official call letter for the Tamil Nadu BDS and MBBS counselling date 2020.

  • In case the candidate has done schooling in any other state, then the candidate will have to furnish his or her nativity certificate.

  • Candidate’s community certificate.

  • Candidate’s ration card or candidate’s passport.


Certain documents of the candidates’ parents are also required as a nativity evidence of Tamil Nadu. The documents are to be brought along on the BDS and MBBS counselling date 2020 are as follows.

  • Aadhar card of the parent.

  • Income Certificate of the parent.

  • Community certificate of the parent.

  • Nativity Certificate of the parent.

  • 10th Mark sheet or 12th Mark sheet or SSLC certificate.

  • No Graduate Certificate or First Graduate Certificate.


MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu - things to remember

All the qualifying candidates will be able to download their call letters from the official website of state counselling for Tamil Nadu. They are advised to go through all the instructions mentioned in the call letters, thoroughly. Candidates must not bring along any smart phones or mobile phones during their counselling session. It is better to refer to the previous year’s  TN MBBS allotted list and shortlist the colleges before the counselling session. The candidates will be able to apply for the available seats for MBBS and BDS undergraduate courses only at the time of counselling. Candidates are suggested to check the admission fee or the tuition fee of respective colleges and furnish demand drafts of the same amount at the time of counselling.


Candidates are requested to make two demand drafts payable to the Secretary, Selection Committee, Chennai-10, so as to pay the processing fee and the tuition fee at the counselling session. The processing fee and the admission fee required to be paid at the time of counselling are enlisted in the below table.

The allotment of Community Wise Medical Seats in Tamil Nadu is based on the NEET cut-off scores for various communities. The cut-off scores and closing ranks for candidates belonging to the general category are higher than for the other candidates. For example, the NEET cut-off score 2019 for general category candidates, applying for BDS, were between 360 and 453. The opening and closing ranks were 2943 and 8627 respectively, for the undergraduate course of BDS. The candidates are suggested to follow the merit list and attend their respective counselling slots on the MBBS counselling date 2020 in Tamil Nadu.
