Tamil Nadu is one of the participating states in the counselling of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The counselling process for MBBS and BDS courses in the government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu for NEET 2024 will begin soon since the NEET 2024 Results have been declared on June 2024. Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Chennai, conducts Tamil Nadu Medical counselling. The candidates who qualify for the NEET are eligible to participate in the Tamil Nadu MBBS counselling. 

 

Depending on the seat availability in government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu, the number of sessions of MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu will be announced. Mostly there are two sessions and the seat allotments for private colleges are carried out in the final session. About MBBS Counselling in Tamil Nadu 2024

The Tamil Nadu MBBS allotted a list for the courses of MBBS and BDS in government and private medical colleges of Tamil Nadu determined based upon the NEET cut-off 2024 marks. Candidates aspiring to pursue the undergraduate courses of MBBS and BDS in the medical colleges of Tamil Nadu have to apply for MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu after clearing the NEET 2024 cut-off percentile. It is most likely that a cut-off percentile of 50 will be set as the eligibility criteria for MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu colleges. No other state-level exams are conducted for enrollment into MBBS and BDS courses of Tamil Nadu colleges. The community-wise medical seats in Tamil Nadu will also be released on the merit list during the counselling sessions.

 

The medical and dental colleges of Tamil Nadu have a total of 15% reservation in the All India Quota seats. The rest of the 85% of seats will be allocated to qualifying candidates through the MBBS counselling in Tamil Nadu. 

 

Tamil Nadu MBBS 2024 Counselling Process

The admission process for medical and dental colleges in Tamil Nadu state for the year 2024 will begin with the registration process. A candidate has to fill out the application form to enroll for Tamil Nadu Medical counselling. A non-refundable registration fee of Rs 500 (for government colleges) should be paid for Tamil Nadu NEET counselling 2024 to complete the registration procedure. DME will release the cut-off and the date sheet for the first round of Tamil Nadu counselling 2024 on its official website. 

 

Candidates who qualify for the cut-off had to report to the counselling venue on the mentioned date and time. Such candidates can download their call letters from the official website of DME. Eligibility Criteria for Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2024

The following are the eligibility criteria that candidates should meet in order to take admission for MBBS in Tamil Nadu.

 

  • Age: 17 years on or before 31 December 2023.

  • Citizenship: 

  1. Citizen of India and domicile of Tamil Nadu

  2. OCI candidate registered under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955.

  • Qualification: 

  1. General category candidates should have secured 50% marks in NEET 2024.

  2. SC/ST/OBC candidates need to secure 40% marks in NEET 2024.

  3. PWD candidates must secure 45% marks in NEET 2024 for unreserved category candidates and 40% for the reserved candidates.

 

Documents Required for MBBS Counselling in Tamil Nadu

All the candidates who will be shortlisted for the medical and dental counselling in Tamil Nadu will be able to find their call letters on the official website of state counselling of Tamil Nadu before the counselling session. Qualifying candidates will have to download the call letters from the website and furnish the same on the day of counselling.

 

The following documents are required to be furnished by the shortlisted candidates for the process of counselling in Tamil Nadu.

  • The 10th board mark sheet of the candidate.

  • The 12th board mark sheet or equivalent degree certificate of the candidate.

  • Aadhar card of the candidate.

  • In case the candidate has been enrolled in any other degree course, the candidate will have to furnish a bonafide certificate from the current institution.

  • A transfer certificate from the last institution.

  • Candidate’s hall ticket of NEET.

  • Candidate’s scorecard of NEET.

  • Official call letter for the Tamil Nadu BDS and MBBS counselling date.

  • In case the candidate has done schooling in any other state, then the candidate will have to furnish his or her nativity certificate.

MBBS Counselling in Tamil Nadu – Things to Remember

All the qualifying candidates will be able to download their call letters from the official website of state counselling for Tamil Nadu. They are advised to go through all the instructions mentioned in the call letters, thoroughly. Candidates must not bring along any smartphones or mobile phones during their counselling session. It is better to refer to the previous year’s Tamil Nadu MBBS allotted list and shortlist the colleges before the counselling session. The candidates will be able to apply for the available seats for MBBS and BDS undergraduate courses only at the time of counselling. Candidates are suggested to check the admission fee or the tuition fee of respective colleges and furnish demand drafts of the same amount at the time of counselling.

The allotment of Community Wise Medical Seats in Tamil Nadu is based on the NEET cut-off scores for various communities. The cut-off scores and closing ranks for candidates belonging to the general category are higher than for the other candidates. For example, the NEET cut-off score 2021 for general category candidates was 720-138. The opening and closing ranks were 2943 and 8627, respectively, for the undergraduate course of BDS in 2019.
