1. What is the ozone layer depletion?

According to chapter 14 science class 9, it is defined as the reduction of ozone in the stratosphere. This leads to harmful UV radiations entering the earth’s atmosphere. 

2. What is the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is referred to as the trapping of solar radiation in the earth’s atmosphere. It is a natural phenomenon. Some of the greenhouse gases include ozone, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour, chlorofluorocarbon, etc. 

3. How do forests influence the quality of water, air and soil resources?

Forests play a significant role in influencing the quality of natural resources and do so in multiple ways. Some of these include:

  • By maintaining the balance between carbon dioxide and oxygen in the atmosphere

  • Prevention of soil erosion by holding the soil intact with its roots and maintaining its fertility

  • Restoring water resources. Water evaporates through plants by transpiration and water bodies by evaporation, and condenses to form clouds. These clouds further discharge the water in the form of rainfall.
