Ans: Rafi has 153 candles and Paras gave 237 candles.

Total candles with Rafi is  \[237 + 153 = 390\]

6. A train compartment is carrying 132 people. Another compartment is carrying 129 people. In all, how many people are there in both the compartments? 

Ans: First compartment has 132 people and Second compartment has 129 people. 

Number of people in both the compartments = 132 + 129 = 261

Therefore, there are 261 people in both the compartments.

7. Shanu found 138 pebbles. Karim found 44 pebbles. How many pebbles did they find in all? 

Ans: Shanu has 138 pebbles. 

Karim has 44 pebbles. 

Total number of pebbles both have \[138 + 44 = 182\]

Therefore, Shanu and Karim found 182 pebbles together.

8. A teacher kept a note of which fruits students like in her school. This is what she found:

Find out: (a) How many students in the school like oranges? 

Ans: 136 girls like oranges and 128 boys like oranges.

Total number of students who like oranges is \[\left( {136 + 128} \right)\] i.e. 264.

(b) How many students in the school like mangoes? 

Ans: 240 girls like mangoes and 243 boys like mangoes. 

Total number of students who like mangoes is \[\left( {240 + 243} \right)\] i.e. 483

(c) Altogether, how many students are there in the school? 

Ans: 264 students like oranges and 483 students like mangoes.

Thus, the total number of students in the school is \[264 + 483\] i.e. 747.

(d) Is the number of girls more than 350 or less than 350?

Ans: 136 girls like oranges and 240 girls like mangoes.

Thus, the total number of girls in school is \[136 + 240\] i.e. 376.
