1. कथावाचक और हरिहर काका के बीच क्या संबंध है और इसके क्या कारण हैं?

उत्तर: कथावाचक और हरिहर काका के बीच गहरा प्रेम और स्नेह का सबंध था। हरिहर काका कथावाचक के पड़ोसी थे, उन्होंने कथावाचक को पिता की तरह प्यार दिया था और बचपन में अपने कंधे पर बैठाकर गॉंव में घुमाया करते थे। लेखक हरिहर काका से कुछ नहीं छिपाते थे। यही कारण है कि दोनों में उमर का अंतर होते हुए भी मित्रता हो गई थी।

2. हरिहर काका को महंत और अपने भाई एक ही श्रेणी के क्यों लगने लगे?

उत्तर: दोनों ही स्वार्थी थे और हरिहर काका की जमीन लेना चाहते थे इसलिए हरिहर काका को अपने भाइयों और महंत में कोई अंतर नहीं लगा। हरिहर काका के काई संतान नहीं थी। उसके पास पंद्रह बीघे की जमीन थी। उनके भाई उन्हें सिर्फ जमीन के लिए रख रहे थे। दूसरी ओर मंहत ने भी एक दिन बड़े प्यार से जमीन को ठाकुर बाड़ी के नाम करने के लिए कहा। जब काका नहीं माने तो अपहरण करके मारा पीटा और जबरदस्ती अँगूठे का निशान ले लिया। इस तरह दोनों का लगाव काका से नहीं, उसकी जमीन से था।

3. ठाकुरबारी के प्रति गाँव वालों के मन में अपार श्रद्धा के जो भाव हैं उससे उनकी किस मनोवृत्ति का पता चलता है?

उत्तर: ठाकुरबाड़ी के प्रति गाँव वालों की आपार श्रद्धा थी। उनका हर सुख दुःख उनसे जुड़ा था। क्योंकि गाँव के लोग भोले, अंधविश्वासी और धर्म को मानने वाले होते है, मंदिर उनके लिए एक पवित्र स्थान है। वे लोग पुजारी, मंहत जैसे लोगों पर अगाध श्रद्धा रखते है, चाहे वे कितने पतित, नीच और स्वार्थी हो। वे अपनी हर सफलता का श्रेय ठाकुर जी को देते थे।

4. अनपढ़ होते हुए भी हरिहर काका दुनिया की बेहतर समझ रखते हैं? कहानी के आधार पर स्पष्ट कीजिए।

उत्तर: काका हरिहर के सामने बहुत से उदाहरण थे जिन्होंने किसी बहकावे में आकर अपनी जायदाद दूसरों के नाम लिखकर, वे उपेक्षा पूर्ण और कष्टमय जीवन जीने को विवश थे। हरिहर अच्छी तरह जान चुके थे कि जायदाद हीन को इस गाँव में कौन पूछता है। ठाकुरबाड़ी के महंत चिकनी - चुपड़ी बातें इसलिए करते थे ताकि काका की ज़मीन ठाकुरबाड़ी के नाम वसीयत करा सकें। हरिहर काका अच्छी तरह जान चुके थे कि महंत और उनके भाई जो आदर - सम्मान और सुरक्षा दे रहे है उसका कारण घनिष्ठ और सगे भाई का संबंध न होकर जायदाद है।

5. हरिहर काका को जबरन उठा ले जाने वाले कौन थे? उन्होंने उनके साथ कैसा बरताव किया?

उत्तर: हरिहर काका को जबरन उठा ले जानेवाले ठाकुरबारी के महंत के पक्षधर और ठाकुरबारी के साधु - संत थे। ये ठाकुरबाड़ी के भेजे हुए आदमी थे। उन्होंने काका को कई बार जमीन जायदाद ठाकुरबाड़ी के नाम कर देने को कहा पर वे नहीं माने। इसलिए वे आधी रात को हथियारों से लैस होकर काका के घर आये और उसका अपहरण कर लिया। महंत और उनके साथियों ने हरिहर काका के साथ बुरा व्यवहार किया। उन्होंने काका के हाथ पाँव बाँधकर मुँह में कपड़ा ठूसकर जबरदस्ती जमीन के कागज़ों पर अँगूठे के निशान लगवा लिया। उसके बाद उन्होंने काका को अनाज के गोदाम में बंद कर दिया।

6. हरिहर काका के मामले में गाँववालों की क्या राय थी और उसके क्या कारण थे?

उत्तर: हरिहर काका के गाँव में दो अलग वर्ग थे। एक वर्ग ठाकुरबाड़ी के महंत और साधु संतों के साथ था जो सोचता था कि काका को आपनी जमीन ठाकुरबारी के नाम लिखकर अपना नाम अमर कर लेना चाहिए और वे ऐसा धार्मिक कार्य करके सीधे स्वर्ग को जायंगे। दूसरे वर्ग के लोग जो कि प्रगतिशील विचारो वाले किसान ये सोचते थे कि काका को अपनी जमीन अपने भाईयों के नाम लिख देनी चाहिए क्योंकि काका के भाई किसान थे और वे जमीन का महत्त्व जानते थे और इससे उनके परिवार का पेट भरेगा।

7. कहानी के आधार पर स्पष्ट कीजिए कि लेखक ने यह क्यों कहा, “अज्ञान की स्थिति में ही मनुष्य मृत्यु से डरते हैं। ज्ञान होने के बाद तो आदमी आवश्यकता पड़ने पर मृत्यु को वरण करने के लिए तैयार हो जाता है।”

उत्तर: पहले जब हरिहर काका अज्ञान की स्थिति में थे तो मृत्यु से डरते थे परंतु बाद में ज्ञान होने पर वे मृत्यु का वरण करने को तैयार हो जाते है। इसलिए लेखक ने ऐसा कहा क्योंकि काका कहानी में दोनों ही प्रस्थितियों से गुजरते है। जब काका को ज्ञान हो जाता है तो उन्हें वे सब लोग याद आ जाते है जिन्होंने परिवार के मोह में फँसकर अपनी जायदाद उनके नाम कर दी और बाद में वे तील - तील मरे। काका ने सोचा तील - तील मरने से अच्छा है कि लोग उसे एक ही बार मार दें। महंत और उसके भाई उन्हें डराते - धमकाते है पर उनकी धमकियों का काका पर कोई असर नहीं होता। वे मृत्यु को अपनाने को तैयार हो जाते है। उन्हें लगता है कि मृत्यु तो एक दिन होनी है। अतः मृत्यु से व्यर्थ डरना है। हरिहर काका की इस मनोस्थिति के कारण लेखक ने उप्युक्त कथन कहा।

8. समाज में रिश्तों की क्या अहमियत है? इस विषय पर अपने विचार प्रकट कीजिए।

उत्तर: समाज में रिशतों की विशेष अहमियत होती हैं। हम रिशतों में एक अदृश्य डोर में बधें रहते है। जिनके कारण व्यक्ति एक दूसरे के दुख -सुख में काम आता है। पर आज समाज में मानवीय मूल्य तथा परिवारिक मूल्य धीरे धीरे कम होता जा रहा है। ज्यादातर व्यक्ति अपने स्वार्थ के लिए रिश्ते निभाते हैं। लोग अमीर लोगों का सम्मान करते हैं और गरीब लोगों को नफरत की निगाह से देखते हैं। केवल स्वार्थ सिद्धि की अहमियत रह गई है। लोग पैसे, जमीन जायदाद के लिए हत्या, अपहरण जैसा नीच कार्य कर जाते हैं।

9. यदि आपके आसपास हरिहर काका जैसी हालत में कोई हो तो आप उसकी किस प्रकार मदद करेंगे?

उत्तर: यदि हमारे घर के पास कोई हरिहर काका जैसे दशा में होगा तो हम उसकी हर संभव मदद करेंगे। हम उसके परिवार के साथ हर संबंध सुधारने की कोशिश करेंगे। उसके रिश्तेदारों को समझाएंगे कि उस व्यक्ति के साथ ऐसा व्यवहार ना करें और उसे प्यार सम्मान और अपनापन दें। अगर उसके साथ कुछ गलत होता है तो हम कोशिश करेंगे कि मीडिया भी सहयोग करें और पुलिस की मदद लेनी पड़ी तो हम पीछे नहीं हटेंगे और व्यक्ति को इंसाफ जरूर दिलवाएंगे।

उत्तर: हरिहर काका के गांव में यदि मीडिया की पहुंच होती तो स्थिति एकदम विपरीत होती। ऐसी स्थिति में हरिहर काका को अपने भाइयों और ठाकुरबारी के भय के साए में ना जीना पड़ता और उनकी ऐसी दुर्गति ना होती। वह अपने भाईयों के धोखे का शिकार ना होते। हरिहर काका के भाइयों के अत्याचार की खबर अखबार में प्रकाशित होते ही उनके विरुद्ध कार्यवाही होती और हरिहर काका की मदद के लिए अनेक समाजसेवी तथा वृद्ध आश्रम के संचालक उनकी मदद करने के लिए तैयार हो जाते इतना ही नहीं समाज के कुछ व्यक्ति उन्हें गोद ले लेते और काका गुजारा भत्ता देते। अतः गांव में यदि मीडिया होता तो हरिहर काका के अपरहण की बात मीडिया की आवाज बन जाती इससे पुलिस तत्काल महंत और उसके पक्षधरओं को पकड़कर कार्रवाई करती और हरिहर काका को न्याय मिलता ।
