Kalpana Chawla was the first American astronaut engineer and the first Indian woman to go to space. As a child the Kalpana Chawla was excited by the aeroplanes and flying, she got inspired. She asked her father to fly in those planes, then her father took her to the flying club and got the glider and allowed her to fly. And she completes her schooling as a high performing student. After getting a bachelor of engineering degree in aeronautical engineering from the Punjab Engineering college, then she moved to the United states and got a masters in Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas. And then she got her Ph. D in Aerospace engineering.
After that Kalpana Chawla got the certificate as the flight instructor rating for airplanes, gliders and commercial pilot licenses for single and multi-engines. After that Kalpana Chawla applied for the NASA astronaut corps. Then she joined the corps and she was selected for her first flight in first attempt.
