JEE Main Percentile vs Marks: A Detailed Analysis and a Comparative Study

JEE Main Percentile vs Marks Analysis and Comparison

JEE Main is one of the most prestigious examinations held by National Testing Agency that single-handedly conducts this test to assess the competency of students. Over 12 lakh candidates appear for JEE Main exam. To make sure that the process of admission in these candidates is conducted reasonably, NTA has introduced normalised scorecard based on their performance. Students can compare their JEE Main Percentile vs Marks by determining their percentile score. With the assessment of percentile through marks, one can easily gauge their rank in JEE Main exam.

Essential Things to Know Before Estimating Percentile versus Marks

The process of estimating rank before the actual declaration by NTA can be beneficial for candidates only when they are equipped with adequate knowledge of how to access it. Furthermore, they should be well-versed with essential components like Normalisation process, tiebreakers to understand what goes behind the process of assessing JEE Main Marks vs Percentile

Comparative Study between JEE Main Percentile vs Marks

A percentile score is an important factor in drawing a comparative study between JEE Main Percentile vs Marks. It defines how well a student has fared in their exam in comparison to all other candidates. While the marks of a candidate are the number scored by him/her in the exam, which is declared along with the result.

Students can refer to the JEE Main Percentile vs Marks Chart, and estimate their probable percentile. The chart here features the usual range of marks and probable percentile.

Apart from assessing the percentile, it is also crucial for students to determine what rank will be awarded to them against their percentile. Furthermore, along with a comprehensive understanding of the functioning of JEE Main Marks vs Percentile, students need to know which rank is awarded to each percentile. A general assessment of the rank with the percentile is shown here in a tabular format.

What is JEE Main Normalisation Process?

Normalisation process helps in creating an equal demarcation while assessing the difficulty level of this multiple session exam. Here NTA counts the percentile equivalence by comparing the candidate’s marks with the relative performance. This score obtained at the end is known as the percentile score. It is calculated up to seven decimal places to reduce ties and ranking ambiguity.

Furthermore, the percentile score of a candidate is determined after the implementation of the normalisation process on the marks of each subject that is Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. A candidate who scores the highest marks will be rewarded with 100 percentile, which is the ideal situation

Tie-Breakers in JEE Main Normalisation Process

In situations when two or more candidates receive similar percentile score, the inter-se merit list will be decided on these factors:

  • Candidates having higher percentile scores in Mathematics will be placed first.

  • The person with a higher score in Physics will be ranked higher in case the tie persists.

  • Candidates with a higher score in Chemistry will be chosen if marks of Mathematics and Physics remain the same.

  • It still exists; a person who is older will be given preference.

Since the results of the January session of JEE Mains have been declared students are now waiting for the arrival of their rank cards. However, they also have the option to assess their own rank in a few convenient steps.

How to Assess Rank with the Available Percentile?

Students, themselves can evaluate their rank from their JEE Main percentile, by following simple steps. Essential details one needs to procure before attempting to determine the rank are mentioned below:

  1. Mention your NTA (National Testing Agency) Score.

  2. Find the total number of students appeared for the exam

  3. Calculate the total number of students who have secured marks similar to you or below than you.

  4. Percentage of students who have secured marks more than you.

  5. The number of students who have secured higher marks than you.

The formula required to calculate rank from the percentile is:

((100 – P)/100)*N + 1

Where;

NTA Score: P

Total number of students: N

Now that you have earned a clear idea about JEE Main Marks vs Percentile and have learnt ways to estimate your rank, mull your thoughts over selecting your favourite institutes based on your position. You can also refer to previous year’s NTA score and gauge which institute allows admission up to which score.

Assess Your Rank and Make Way to Your Dream College

JEE Main Percentile vs Marks is initiated to help candidates estimate their probable position and fix their choices on preferred branch and institute. Candidates who are willing to make their way into top engineering colleges have to prepare for each of the papers with the same precision and hard work. Since this scorecard takes into account the percentile of multiple session papers, make sure you set your focus on each subject and prepare them equally well.

All the best for your exams! Go and ace it.
