IIT Madras, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, is categorised as the first-generation institute which provides higher technical education. IIT Madras seeks admission in undergraduate courses through written entrance examinations called the Joint Entrance Examination. The students who qualify in this examination will be eligible for a four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree, and a five-year dual degree (Integrated course).

IITM also provides scholarships to students using Institute free studentship, Merit-cum-Means Scholarship, Institute Notional Prize, and Institute SC/ST Scholarship. The admission process begins in September for undergraduates. The counselling process for admission to all IITs is facilitated by Joint Seat Allocation Authority. According to his JEE ADVANCED RANK, the candidate is allotted a seat in the course, and the preference of the courses is allotted through the JEE ADVANCED RANK.

There are a total of six counselling sessions for the candidates. The eligibility criteria of almost all the courses include the following:

• Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology as the major subjects.

• Minimum of 60% of marks in +2 to appear for admission. 

• SC/ ST will have the relaxation of up to 5% in the minimum qualifying marks.

• Cut-off of the particular course.

IIT Madras - Application Process

The students are required to complete entire admission applications to apply to IIT Madras. It occurs in the online portal on the official website. The students will have to register for the JEE Advanced exam for B.Tech courses. Candidates will have to upload all the personal, academic details and upload scanned images of the candidate’s photograph and signature on the official website. The students will then submit an application fee using a Debit card/Credit card/Net banking/UPI/PAYTM. Print the acknowledgement slip for future reference after the payment is made.
