David Warner managed to score a total of 335 runs and then became the 31st player to have a triple century for his country.


When it comes to scoring 300 plus runs in test cricket more than once, there are not many players who have actually managed to achieve that feat for sure. Amongst so many different players who have played the test series, there are just quite a few such as Brian Lara, Donald Bradman, Chris Gayle, and Virender Sehwag. Amongst these people, Brian Lara as well as Chris Gayle are from Australia, Donald Bradman was from Australia, and Virender Sehwag represented the country of India. Not just that, Brian Lara is also said to hold the record for the highest score that a player has got in test cricket and the score is 400. He has also managed to score more than 350 runs two times.


The fastest 300 in test cricket when it comes to the time period was actually scored by the player Wally Hammond between 1932 and 1933. The time taken by the player to score a proper triple century was 4 hours and 48 minutes in total. However, if we take the number of balls into consideration, the fastest century was scored by Virender Sehwag.


The player took just 278 balls to score a triple century. In fact, this was the first triple century in test cricket by an Indian player. Virender Sehwag scored the triple century in a match that was against South Africa in the year 2008 in Chennai.


Hanif Mohammad, a player from Pakistan, and Brendon McCullum, a player from New Zealand are basically the only ones amongst the list of players who have managed to score triple centuries in the 2nd innings. This is definitely a huge deal and hence people tend to give them the credit for it as well. The country that has managed to score the most 300 in the test series is Australia. The country has scored a triple century about 8 times in total. The number of occasions where there have been 300 runs in test cricket by an Indian player is two.

History of Triple Century in Test Cricket

The case of the first triple century in test cricket was actually achieved by Andy Sandham who was a player for England. Andy Sandham managed to score a triple century against the West Indies and that too in the year 1930. This was also the year the West Indies hosted the Test series for the first time. Younus Khan, a player from Pakistan was known to score a triple century in a match held in Karachi. It is seen mostly that the frequency with which a batsman is able to score a triple century is quite less than the frequency by which a bowler is able to get a hattrick in the test series. Still, these players have managed to bring great honour to their countries. We all know that there was about three triple century by Indian players.
