An Affair of Fees:

Different hospitals levy different amounts of fees for the patients attending the OPD. For government Hospitals, the fees are kept at a minimum, while the OPDs or private hospitals can vary and are set by the hospital authorities.

A patient who comes for a diagnosis in the OPD is called an Outpatient. The patient is not hospitalized until then. He or she may later be referred for admission after being diagnosed by the OPD.
