Introduction to a Story About Animal Welfare

Animal Welfare is an important skill for kids to learn during their developing years as it helps to be empathic to all living creatures equally. There are so many animals around the world suffering from pain, ruthlessly being exploited for the selfish needs of humans be it for entertainment or commercial purposes.

Animals, big or small, love and teach companionship to both adults and children. We as humans shall pledge to contribute our bit in any form to the animal kingdom and protect animals around us for their selfless duties as it is our foremost duty to help them.

The Little Dove Story Summary

Once a boy named Rudra lived in a small house near the city gardens with his parents. He was a responsible kid and his parents loved him very much. His age was five years old, he considered himself to be a big boy now. Consequently, at times, he refused to listen to his parents.

One day Rudra saw a little dove on his lawn. He was curious so he approached closer and found out that the little bird was bleeding. He called out for his mother and she came running to the lawn.

When she saw the injured bird, she brought the little dove inside the house. She cleaned the dove’s wound and gave it something to eat.

Rudra witnessed something like this for the first time and naturally many questions came to his mind. Where did the bird come from? Where were its parents? Why couldn’t it fly? How did it get hurt? He wondered.

That night Rudra’s mother arranged a cardboard box for the bird to sleep in. She fed and took great care of it. The next day, Rudra was very reluctant to leave for school. He wished to stay home with the dove. And when his mother pushed him to go, he kept on thinking about the dove even at school.

As soon as he returned home, he was eager to see the bird. His mother had put the bird back on the lawn as it was recovering. The bird had now started walking.

Suddenly, Rudra saw a bigger dove approaching with something in its mouth and the baby dove ran toward it. The mother dove fed her baby. Both Rudra and his mother were very happy to see the mother dove care for and feed her baby throughout the day.

That night Rudra’s mother again kept the baby dove inside the house as it still could not fly. If it remained outside, she feared some cat or dog might end its life. His mother explained to Rudra that the baby dove might have disobeyed its parents which landed him in this situation. It might have left the nest when his wings still weren’t developed and therefore must have fallen down and hurt itself.

From then on, every day his mother kept the baby dove on the lawn where its mother came and fed her baby. The baby dove soon showed signs of recovery.

One evening, while Rudra was sitting on the lawn, the mother dove fed the baby and a little later, both of them flew away. Rudra thought to himself, “Perhaps its wings became strong”.

Rudra was happy that the baby dove recovered but the separation from his little friend upset him.

Rudra promised his parents to never disobey them. He learned that our parents are our well-wishers and we must respect their advice.

Note to Parents

Reading at home with children benefits a great deal in their development as it helps them to strengthen their language, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Inculcating a reading time of at least half an hour in a child’s daily routine shall be a must to boost their communication skills.

Conclusion

As kids, we might think that we know the best for ourselves and that our parents mustn’t scold us, but we often forget that our elders have much more experience than us. They only try to protect us from any evil that might harm us. So, instead of disobeying them, we shall understand that whatever they say is for our good and we must follow them.
