The Lazy Horse

The Lazy Horse

The Story of a Lazy Horse

Once upon a time, there was a boy who traded goods to the market. His name was Tom. He was very kind and understanding. He mostly traded salt. Tom always took the salt on horseback and returned home after selling it. But the horse was lazy and always wanted to avoid tiresome work.

One day, Tom was preparing to go to the market to sell salt. So, he put a sack of salt on horseback. The horse started to walk, but Tom was busy collecting food. After a few hours of walking, the horse reached a bridge. Suddenly, it slipped down, and salt started falling off the sack. Immediately the salt sank into the water. The horse started to scream for help. “Please help me. Someone, please help me.” After some time, when the horse returned from the water, the salt dissolved into the water, and the sack became lighter than before.

Tom reached the bridge after collecting food. When he weighed the salt, he saw it weighed half a kg less than before. At first, he thought that he probably weighed it wrong. But the same incident kept happening for two more weeks. Tom was getting suspicious of the horse.

One day, Tom put salt into the sack and put the sack onto the horse’s back. But this time, he did not stop anywhere to collect food. Instead, he started following the horse. He saw that when the horse reached the bridge, it tipped, and the sack of salt went into the water, causing the salt to get dissolved. So, Tom decided to teach the horse a lesson.

The next day, Tom became a cotton trader. So, he put some cotton into the sack and put the sack onto the horseback. The horse kept on walking. It slipped down when it reached the bridge, and the sack went into the river. As a result, the cotton became heavier after absorbing the water.

The horse was sinking and started shouting again, “please help me. I am getting suffocated here. Someone, please help me.” When the horse went up, Tom came to the bridge and said, “horsey, now I hope that you have learnt your lesson.”

The next day, Tom put some cotton into a sack again and kept it on the horse’s back. The horse started walking and put some cotton into the river. Then it started to run as fast as possible. After some time, it threw all the cotton somewhere and hid. When Tom returned, he got very angry to see that all the cotton was on the ground. But he was a kind-hearted fellow, so he just scolded the horse.

But Tom understood that the horse would not stop doing its trick just because he was now a salt trader. So, he started trading salt again. This time, he trained the horse properly and told it not to be up with any tricks. But the horse was still trying to trick Tom.

One day, the horse tripped and fell into the water. It started shouting for help. “Please help me. Tom, please help me.” Tom heard the horse screaming for help. So, he ran as fast as he could to save his horse. This time, Tom brought a rope and told the horse to hold the rope and come out of the water safely. The horse learned its mistake. After that day, Tom packed salt in the sack and traded salt forever without being a victim of any trick.
