Introduction to the Story

In the Ashwamedha yagna, Lord Rama's sacred white horse was left to travel with the command that whoever stops it would have to battle one of the strongest armies ever formed. This epic battle has become one of mythology's most well-known stories. Two young boys saw the horse and playfully captured him while most forces wouldn't dare. The very young Luv and Kush prepare to display their unbreakable courage while paying no attention to the message delivered by the sacred horse.

Luv and Kush and the White Horse Story

Sita and her sons Luv and Kush resided in Sage Valmiki's ashram after Rama banished her from Ayodhya. The two boys developed into strong individuals like their father Rama.

Rama once held a sizable Ashvamedha Yajna. A sacred white horse was decorated with jewels and clothing after the yajna, and it was announced that this horse would travel to various kingdoms in the area. A declaration that warned that anyone who caught the horse would have to engage in combat with the soldiers riding along with the horse was hung around the animal's neck. Shatrughna was entrusted with the task of taking the horse. One day, the horse was passing by Sage Valmiki's ashram.

When Luv and Kush saw the horse, they decided to take it to the ashram. The declaration was around the horse's neck as Luv and Kush fought Rama's army to capture it, but they weren't in the least bit alarmed. Shatrughna and some of his soldiers soon arrived, and when they saw that two young boys had captured the horse, they were indignant. Luv and Kush refused to let the horse go despite his best efforts to convince them, insisting that they should fight Satrughna's army instead.

Because Luv and Kush were excellent archers, Shatrughana's soldiers soon fled, and he was forced to concede defeat.

Shatrughan returned and informed Rama of the victory the young boys had achieved over the army.

Laxmana was tasked by Rama to retrieve the horse from the boys at Valmiki's ashram.

To take the boys to Ayodhya, he instructed Laxmana.
