Introduction to the Story of Indra and Vritra :

Vritra, who assumed the shape of a demonic creature, stole all the water in the world. Life on earth was in danger as the water drained away, but only Indra could prevent this disaster. Lord Indra defeated Vrita with the help of a thunderbolt which was made from the bones of Sage Dadhich. Let us learn about the story in more detail.

Indra’s Fight with Vritra Story:

The Rig Veda claims that Vritra was the Vedic artisan deity who imprisoned the world's rivers until he was defeated by Indra, who then destroyed all 99 of Vritra's prisons. The battle started not long after Indra was born, and at Tvashtri's home, he drank a lot of Soma (a ritual drink) to strengthen himself before going up against Vritra. When urged to do so by Indra, Vishnu prepared the area for the battle. Vritra broke Indra's jaws during the combat but was then hurled down by Indra and, while landing, demolished the previously shattered walls. Tvashtri created the thunderbolt (Vajrayudha) for Indra. Indra earned the nickname "Vtrahan" for this achievement. He tore the demon's body open, and water gushed out of it once more. Indra was welcomed as the world's king as the water poured out. Even after being defeated by Indra, Vritra didn't give up. He continued to fight despite having his arms severed and said, "You are ashamed of killing your teacher and Vritra's brother." Indra was a great devotee of Sri Narayana, but Narayana cursed him, so he maintained spontaneous and unceasing devotion to the Lord. Eventually, he swallowed Indra and everyone else who was present, but Indra, who had gained immense power, returned from his stomach.

Story  of Indra and Vritra

The Technique used to kill Vritra by using Bones

The asuras' leader was Vritra. He eventually took control, and the devas were terrified of his evil power. They went to Vishnu for help under Indra's leadership. He revealed that only a weapon made from a sage's bones could defeat Vritra, explaining that he could not be eliminated through normal techniques. When they approached the rishi Dadhichi, as instructed by Vishnu, he willingly gave up his bones for their cause, saying that it would be better for them to succeed than to waste on the earth. The devas gathered the bones, and Indra used them to create the Vajrayudha(the field to war). When they fought Vritra again, it took 360 days for him before he passes away.

Who Defeated Vritra?

Indra ultimately beats him by fighting him for the right reasons to recover the water from Vritra. However, defeating Vritra was impossible using normal methods; the only option was using human bones.

Vritra Story

Hinduism refers to Vritra as a Vedic snake, dragon, or demon. He represents chaos, evil, and famine and is Indra's enemy. Asuras are classified as Vritra. The Vedas also refer to Vritra as Ahi. He appears as a serpent that resembles a human and blocks the flow of the rivers. Indra kills him bravely.

Moral of the Story

There are no other means of helping others besides humans; occasionally, there will be god's blessings. Here, Indra fought to recover the water that Vritra had taken, not just for himself but for the entire world.

Conclusion

In this story, we have seen how humanity was saved from the crisis of water by Lord Indra. He fought with the devil Vritra with the thunderbolt. He was injured during the battle but did not give up and eventually defeated Vritra. This shows the victory of good over evil.
