The Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences conducts the National Standard Examination in Biology with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers and HBCSE. The exam date that has been scheduled for the year 2023 is on the 26th of November 2023.

NSEB 2023-24: Examination Pattern and Marking Scheme

The new examination structure will combine the first two stages of NSEB/IOQA into a single stage called the Indian National Olympiad.


IAPT has stated that for each exam there will be a single examination comprising two parts that will be held in a single sitting.

 

Part-I

This part will be known as NSE (National Standard examination)

Question Type: Objective-type questions to be answered on an OMR sheet

Part-II

This part will be known as INO (Indian National Olympiad)

Question Type: Students are asked to write a detailed answer on an answer booklet. 

 

Note: The students will be writing both parts IOQA Part-I (NSE) & Part-II (INO) but the answer booklet of Part-II will be evaluated only if you’ve qualified Part-I.


  • The exam comprises a total of 60 questions.

  • 3 marks will be awarded for each correct response, -1 will be deducted for every incorrect response, and no marks will be given for unanswered questions.

  • A student can score a maximum score of 216 marks.

 

Eligibility Criteria for NSEB Exam

Check the eligibility criteria of the exam before you appear.

  • Students must be Indian citizens.

  • For the National Standard Examination in Biology 2023, candidates must have been born between July 1, 2004, and June 30, 2009, .

  • The student must be currently enrolled in an Indian educational system OR must have lived and studied in India starting on or before November 30, 2021, at the latest.

  • You must not have begun studying at a university or other comparable institution by June 1, 2023, nor must you have any plans to do so.

  • Before November 30, 2023, the Class XII board exam or an equivalent exam cannot have been passed (or to be finished).

 

Registration Process for NSEB 2023-24

NSEB Exam interests those student studying or pursuing Biology, it is a nationwide exam.  Students who wish to take NSEB examinations must first register by following the instructions below. Check the details on the NSEB Application form.

  • Students must enrol through their respective colleges or schools.

  • Students must enrol through their respective colleges or schools.

  • Student must submit a fully filled out application form and an INR 200 as registration fee.

  • After they are paid, the registration fees are not refundable.

  • Students will not be allowed to take the NSEB exams and will be automatically rejected if the registration forms are not correctly filled out.

  • Students can sign up at a nearby centre if their particular school or college is not listed with the NSE centre.


Important Instructions for NSEB Exam

  • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only and not be scribbled anywhere else. 

  • Misbehaviour of any kind in the exam hall that causes disturbances can lead to the expulsion of the candidate.

  • If caught, copying will lead to cancellation of the answer sheet and inevitably the candidature.

  • The candidate should sit on the designated seat and not anywhere else.

  • The student must by all means carry the downloaded admit card.
