IOQM Previous Year Question Paper with Answer Keys - Year-wise FREE PDFs

The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the gateway to India's Mathematical Olympiad programme - clearing it takes you to INMO, and eventually a shot at representing India at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). And there is no sharper preparation tool than the actual papers themselves.

Solving IOQM previous year question papers shows you exactly what the exam demands: the real difficulty level, the topic weightage across Number Theory, Algebra, Geometry and Combinatorics, and how much time each 2, 5 and 10-mark question actually deserves.

On this page, Vedantu brings you year-wise IOQM previous-year question papers from 2020 to 2025 with answer keys and detailed solutions, all in free, downloadable PDF format.

IOQM Previous Year Question Paper for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 - Important Clarification

One question paper, all classes. Unlike school-level olympiads, IOQM sets a single common question paper for all eligible students from Class 8 to Class 12 - the questions are identical whether you're in Class 9 or Class 12.

What differs is the qualifying cutoff, which HBCSE/MTA sets separately for junior and senior class groups, so younger students aren't competing on equal terms with Class 12 candidates.

Why Solve IOQM Previous Year Question Papers?

  • Understand the real exam pattern. PYQs reveal the actual structure and mark distribution far better than any description - including how the 10-markers sit at a different difficulty tier entirely.

  • Gauge the difficulty level accurately. Textbook problems rarely match Olympiad difficulty; past papers set your expectations correctly.

  • Identify recurring concepts. Certain themes — modular arithmetic, cyclic quadrilaterals, counting arguments — appear year after year. PYQs expose these patterns.

  • Build time management. 24 questions in 180 minutes means roughly 7 minutes per question. Only timed PYQ practice teaches you when to commit and when to move on.

  • Self-assess your preparedness. Score your attempt against the answer key, and you get an honest measure of where you stand versus the qualifying cutoff.

How to Use IOQM PYQs Effectively - Expert Strategy

1. Attempt under real conditions. Full 3 hours, no breaks, no phone, pen and paper only.

2. Start with older papers, save recent ones. Use 2020–22 papers early in preparation, and reserve 2024–25 papers for final mock simulations.

3. Analyse every question - including correct ones. Was your method the fastest? Was it a lucky guess?

4. Maintain a mistake notebook. Log the question, topic, error type and correct method. Revise weekly.

5. Go topic-wise first if you're a beginner. Solve all Number Theory questions across five years together to spot patterns, then attempt full papers.

6. Target the easy marks first. The ten 2-mark questions are 20 marks of relatively accessible scoring — secure them before chasing the 10-markers.

IOQM Preparation Tips 2026

  • Revise the full IOQM syllabus before you begin heavy PYQ practice.

  • Build a structured revision cycle rather than one-time reading with IOQM Free Mock Test Series.

  • Dedicate specific time to your weakest topic each week.

  • Combine PYQs with full-length mock tests for complete exam readiness.

FAQs on IOQM Previous Year Question Papers with Solutions: Free PDF Download (2020–2025)

1. Where can I download IOQM previous year question papers with solutions?

All papers from 2020 to 2025, with answer keys and step-by-step solutions, are available free in the download table above and the official website.

2. Is the IOQM question paper the same for all classes?

Yes. IOQM sets one common paper for Classes 8 to 12; only the qualifying cutoffs differ by class group.

3. Where can I get the IOQM previous year question paper for Class 10 or Class 9?

The same year-wise papers above apply to Class 9 and Class 10 students — there's no separate class-wise paper.

4. Is there negative marking in IOQM?

No, IOQM has no negative marking, so attempting every question you can reason through is the optimal strategy.

5. How many previous year papers should I solve before IOQM 2026?

Solve all available papers from 2020 onwards — at least 5–6 full papers under timed conditions, plus PRMO papers for additional practice.

6. Can I challenge the IOQM answer key if I find an error?

Yes, HBCSE typically provides an objection window after releasing the official answer key; the procedure is specified in their official notification.

7. Are IOQM 2022 question papers still relevant for 2026 preparation?

Absolutely — the exam pattern has remained stable at 24 questions/100 marks, so the 2022 paper is fully relevant practice material.

8. What is a good score in IOQM previous year papers?

Cutoffs vary by year and class, but consistently scoring 40–50+ on past papers puts you in strong contention for INMO qualification.
