Due to Covid 19 - The usual three-stage procedure for the selection of the teams to represent India at the International Olympiad that has been followed in prior years is now being shortened to a two-stage procedure as a one-time exception only for the academic year 2020 - 21. Read more about IOQ 2020-21.

The best preparation to crack INChO is to thoroughly go through the previous year’s question papers and sample papers of INChO. Practicing from INCho previous year question papers allows students to have a clear understanding of the concept of the INCho exam as well as the type of questions that come, thus clearing off all the ambiguity related to the INChO exam paper. Solving through INChO past papers will also allow students to have an absolute evaluation of their knowledge in various areas of chemistry. More so, they are able to self judge their scientific reasoning and logical ability on which they are scored in INChO.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1. Who can Help me Best in Preparing for the Chemistry Olympiad 2020 -2021?

Ans: Students of Vedantu e-learning shine in SOF, IAPT, and HBCSE Olympiads Stages. Previous year also Vedantu students have outshined the NSE Stage II Olympiads. A good number of students from Vedantu have bagged top positions in HBCSE Olympiads Stage-2 in various subjects INAO, INMO, INBO, INChO, InPhO, and got selected for Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC). The study material designed by Vedantu professionals is known to provide relevant and excellent study material for the preparation of the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INChO) exam organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). The study material and workbooks are equally useful for National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) as well as other Chemistry Olympiads.

Q2. Which Books to Refer for Preparation of the INChO Exam and Other Chemistry Olympiads?

Ans: For NSEC, you can simply thoroughly go through the NCERT. Besides, you can refer to these books:

  1. Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry, 2th Edition— Holt International

  2. Analytical Chemistry, 5th Edition— John Wiley & Sons, Inc

  3. Schaum's- series books

The abovementioned books are sufficient for INChO aspirants. These books have been designed to provide insight and intellect into almost all the areas of Chemistry asked in several Chemistry Olympiads. The books have been divided into chapters that include Atomic Structure, Biomolecules, Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Energetics, Chemical Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics, Electrochemistry, Gaseous State, Redox Reactions, Radioactivity, & Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II, as per the syllabi of the INChO.

Q3. What Happens After the Student Gets Selected for INCho?

Ans: Selection in INCho is the 2nd stage of the NSEC Olympiad. After clearing the INChO exam, the student appears for the 3rd stage i.e. the Orientation cum Selection Camp in Chemistry (OCSC). The OCSC in chemistry is conducted by HBCSE somewhere between April to June for 2-3 weeks every year. However, this OCSC 2020 has been postponed due to unforeseen pandemic conditions in the country and worldwide. The confirmed dates for OCSC selected candidates will be updated on the HBCSE site prior to or along with the announcement of the selection list of students for stage III.

Q4. What Happens in the OCS Camp in Chemistry?

Ans: The OCS camps by HBCSE include various theoretical as well as experimental tests.  The orientation is given to INChO qualified students, particularly for experiments. The camp comes to conclusion with a grand farewell function in the presence of many illustrious scientists that are invited to communicate and address the students. You must know that the OCSC merit list is worked out on the basis of the collective theoretical and experimental score aggregated from all of the tests conducted in the camp. The theory is given 60% of weightage while 40% is reserved for the experiment. Do not worry as the camp does not consider scores of the previous stages (NSEC and INChO) in preparation of the merit list or awards of the OCSC.
