EGMO 2021 Exam Details

EGMO, European Girls Mathematical Olympiad, is an international school-level competitive exam for girls to evaluate their mathematics skills. A team of four girls, competent and adept in mathematics, studying at any affiliated school in the participating countries, is sent to represent the respective countries in EGMO. Only four girls are selected from each participating country every year, and it is an extremely prestigious opportunity for them to represent their nation on a global platform.

EGMO consists of two tests. Each test consists of 3 problems, and the time duration for each test is 4 hours. The tests are conducted for two consecutive days. India has been participating in EGMO since 2015 and the selection process is conjoined with IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad). EGMO-2021: Registration Process

There is no such application form to register for European Girls Mathematical Olympiad, EGMO-2021. Candidates are selected on the basis of the PRMO merit list, for this competitive exam. Aspirants must note that they need to crack IOQM (earlier known as PRMO) to become eligible for EGMO.

EGMO-2021: IOQM Registration (An Initial Step to Participate in EGMO)

Earlier, candidates could register for PRMO through their schools only. However, from this year, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the mode of registration has become online.

Step-1: Visit the official website of PRMO/IOQM – 2020. 

Step-2: On the home page, click on the “New Registration” tab.

Step-3: Now move to the “Student Registration Form Apply for” box.

Step-4: Select any one option among the 2 options displayed:

ANY OR BOTH OF JUNIOR SCIENCE (IOQJS), MATHS (IOQM) (FOR CLASS - 8, 9, 10), or ANY OR ALL OF PHYSICS (IOQP), CHEMISTRY (IOQC), BIOLOGY (IOQB), ASTRONOMY (IOQA), MATHS (IOQM) (FOR CLASS-10, 11, 12.

Step-5: Now fill in your personal details.

Step-6: Click on the “Register Now” button.

Step-7: You will receive the login credentials on your registered mobile number & email id. Now login with the help of those credentials.

Step-8: Now enter all the necessary information & upload the documents.

Step-9: Make the payment for the application fees.

Step-10: Take the printout of the acknowledgment message for future reference.

EGMO-2021: Highlights

  • EGMO-2021 is planned to be conducted in Georgia. Although last year EGMO-2020 was planned to be conducted in the Netherlands, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the whole contest was organized virtually.

  • This year 2021, two out of the four participants from India, Gunjan Aggarwal, Anushka Aggarwal are trained by Vedantu Master teachers.

  • EGMO exam is held for two consecutive days, which is usually specified in the annual regulations under the direction of the chief invigilator. On each day of the contest, the test starts early in the morning and extends for a duration of 4 hours.

EGMO-2021: Syllabus

The syllabus for EGMO-2021 includes the regular academic content of Class XI to Class XII level. The questions of EGMO 2021 have high levels of difficulty. The difficulty level increases for the exams in the following order: IOQM< RMO< INMO< EGMO. If you want to get a clearer vision of the type of questions and the expected difficulty levels in the EGMO 2021, you must solve previous year question papers available on the HBCSE website.

Topics

  • Pre-Degree College Mathematics – The arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equations and expressions, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, a system of linear equations, permutations and combinations, factorization of polynomials, inequalities, elementary combinatorics, probability theory and number theory, finite series, and complex numbers, and elementary graph theory.

  • Algebra, geometry, and number theory.

  • The syllabus does not include any topics from calculus and statistics.

EGMO-2021: Sample Papers

The syllabus of EGMO-2021 has been updated. Try solving sample papers to take your preparation to the next level. These sample papers give you a clear idea about this maths olympiad. About 15% to 20% of the questions are from the ‘mental ability’ section in the IOM exam, and aspirants are suggested to practice sums from all the topics thoroughly during their exam preparation.

  • Only female candidates can apply for EGMO.

  • Candidates have to qualify the olympiads such as IOQM, RMO, INMO, and IMOTC.

  • Candidates should be citizens or residents of a participating country and should be selected through that country’s National Mathematics Olympiad or equivalent selection program.

  • Candidates who have enrolled in full-time primary or secondary education, on or after 1 December in the year prior to the EGMO are eligible.

In the case of home-schooled students, candidates must not have received a high-school diploma and must be working toward such a credential on 1 December, to be eligible for EGMO.
