At the end of the chapter, students are provided different exercises in the form of fill in the blanks, finding out phrasal verbs, and noun phrase.
At the end of the chapter, a beautiful poem has been given “The Ant and the Cricket”. In true sense, it is a fable. Students will come to know what a fable is and the exercises provided in the end will help them to utilize their English language skills and gain confidence.
Chapter 2: The Tsunami
The chapter talks about a natural calamity causing huge destruction and loss of life and property. Alongside the story of deep sorrow are reassuring details of courage, survival and resilience. At the end of the chapter exercises like fill in the blanks, finding out active and passive voices are given.
The chapter is followed by a beautiful poem called “Geography” that talks about the authors experience viewing his city from 10000 feet above the ground in the course of an air trip by plane.
Chapter 3: Glimpses of the Past
In this chapter, the history of our country is to be understood through pictures with strips of text for support. Children have a natural enthusiasm for this kind of material in the textbook. At the end of this chapter, students are expected to answer the questions after reading the text. Moreover, there are exercises where students are required to change the speech of the sentence.
At the end of this chapter, a poem called “Macavity: The Mystery Cat” has been given that talks about the mysterious qualities of a cat. Exercises given at the end contains some descriptive questions, fill in the blanks, true and false.
Chapter 4: Bepin Choudhury’s Lapse of Memory
A Satyajit Ray story with a surprise ending that brings in its wake the much-needed psychological relief to the sophisticated executive beleaguered by a conspiracy, which is a humorous take after all. Apart from the comprehension exercises given at the end of each unit, there are some descriptive questions given at the end of the chapter, fill in the blanks, and some reading and writing exercises.
The chapter is succeeded by a poem called The Last Bargain. It is a poem of a person looking for work. And at the last, he was hired by a child. At the end of the poem, students are supposed to do ‘working with the poem’ exercise.
Chapter 5: The Summit Within
The chapter reveals the experience of Mr H.P.S. Ahluwalla who climbed Mount Everest in 1965. Know his experience, challenges and feeling while climbing through this chapter. Exercises provided at the end consists of comprehension, short answer questions, fill in the blanks, matching the columns, writing the correct noun forms.
The chapter is followed by a poem called “The School Boy”, in which the schoolboy in the poem is not a happy child. What makes him unhappy?
