There are eight poems in NCERT Honeydew. The first poem, The Ant and the Cricket are in the form of a fable. It teaches the students to be responsible for their actions. Instead of spending their lives callously, they should try to secure their future. 

The second poem Geography Lesson describes a city as it is visible from a great height. It revolves around how a city emerges, leading to barriers and differences.

Macavity: The Mystery Cat is a poem in the form of a fable. It is a humorous poem about a mysterious cat. 

The Last Bargain emphasises the futility of the mundane world. The School Boy deals with an unhappy boy who feels that his childhood is getting wasted in the process of learning.

The Duck and the Kangaroo are about the urge of freedom. When I Set Out for Lyonnesse, describes the experience of the poet during his visit to Lyonnesse.

On the Grasshopper and Cricket is a symbolic poem about summer and winter. The poet uses personification to present his thoughts.
