The moon shines in the night sky, and birds return to their nests, people have their dinner and go to sleep.

Chapter 4- What's Going On?

In this fourth Chapter of the NCERT book for Class 2, English students will learn how to describe different images. There are two images here where individuals are engaged in various activities.

The first image describes a scene from a carrom game, where four kids are playing, and two kids are watching the game. Additionally, there are two kittens present there as well.

The second image describes a family preparing their food. Similarly, students need to describe the third image, taking hints from the first two descriptions.

Similar to the previous exercise sections, this one also comprises illustrations and short-answer type questions.

This Chapter will teach students how to compare and distinguish two tasks from one another. It will also help students in describing what they are seeing and experiencing in a more detailed fashion with higher accuracy. 

Chapter 5- Mohan, The Potter

In this Chapter of NCERT books for Class 2 English, students will learn about a guy named Mohan. Mohan is a potter by profession, and he produces various goods from clay. He makes jugs, cups, pots, oil lamps, etc. Moreover, he lives in Kuppam village.

Mohan also has a bullock cart; he uses this cart to take his products to the markets in the city. He sells these goods there to earn money. The exercise section has fill in the blanks, right and wrong selection, and a part where you can draw and paint a pot.

This Chapter will basically introduce students to the idea of an occupation. Through Mohan’s story, they will learn about how people pursue various occupations. They will also learn about pottery and associated activities.

Chapter 6- Rain in Summer

In this Chapter of the NCERT English book for  Class 2 students will read a poem by H.W. Longfellow. In this poem, the poet has described how rain pours down during the summer season. It settles the heat and dust of rain on streets as well as narrow lanes. Furthermore, the poet describes how rain clatters on the roof, and creates a sound effect of hoofs.

H.W. Longfellow is a renowned American poet. In the exercise section, students will find different descriptions that will help them recognise different items around them.

Chapter 7- My Village

The 7th Chapter of NCERT Class 2 English book PDF describes the village, where the narrator Jagmal resides. Jagmal is a student, and he lives in a village named Chennur. It is a small village full of trees and animals. People have huts as well as pucca houses. Moreover, there is a school in Jagmal's village, where four teachers come from the nearby town to teach them.

Additionally, this village has a well and a pond, and some people in this village have TV and mobile phones.

1. National Flag: The national flag of India has three colours, saffron, white and green. Additionally, it has a dark blue wheel in the middle of it made of 24 arms. Because of its three colours, it is also known as tricolour.

2. National Emblem: The national emblem of India is known as Ashok Stambha. It has four lions standing back to back, facing four directions. Students can see it on currency notes and coins.

3. National Bird: The national bird of India is the peacock. Peacock has a long tail made of blue and green feathers. It dances by spreading its tail like a fan when it is happy.

4. National Animal: Tiger is the national animal of India.

This Chapter is very important because it will introduce students to our national symbols. It will create a sense of patriotism towards India. It will also make them understand what significance do these symbols hold and why they are supposed to respect them.

Chapter 11- The Festivals of India

In this Chapter, students will learn about the festivals of this country. Throughout the year, there are many festivals that Indians celebrate. In this section, they will learn about the major ones.

In the first section, students will study Diwali. Here they can see how Meenu and her brother Kunal decorate their house, wear new clothes, and burst firecrackers during this period.

The second section portrays how Amir and his family celebrate Eid after Ramzan. On this day they distribute sweets and wear new clothes.

In the last section, students will learn about Nancy. She is excited about celebrating Christmas with her family. Additionally, her mother has prepared a special cake for this occasion. Her brother Neil has decorated the Christmas tree.

Chapter 12- The Monkey and The Elephant

In this Chapter of the NCERT book, 2nd Class English students will study a short story about an elephant and a group of monkeys. These monkeys were playing on a tree, and suddenly they heard a loud noise and saw an elephant coming towards them. They were afraid and ran up the tree.

This elephant soon came close to the tree, and a little monkey smiled at him. He picked up that monkey and put him on his back. After that, other monkeys jumped on his back, and they had an elephant ride.

Chapter 13- Going to the Fair
