Chapter 5- Mohan, The Potter

In this Chapter of NCERT books for Class 2 English, students will learn about a guy named Mohan. Mohan is a potter by profession, and he produces various goods from clay. He makes jugs, cups, pots, oil lamps, etc. Moreover, he lives in Kuppam village.

Mohan also has a bullock cart; he uses this cart to take his products to the markets in the city. He sells these goods there to earn money. The exercise section has fill in the blanks, right and wrong selection, and a part where you can draw and paint a pot.

This Chapter will basically introduce students to the idea of an occupation. Through Mohan’s story, they will learn about how people pursue various occupations. They will also learn about pottery and associated activities.


Chapter 6- Rain in Summer

In this Chapter of the NCERT English book for  Class 2 students will read a poem by H.W. Longfellow. In this poem, the poet has described how rain pours down during the summer season. It settles the heat and dust of rain on streets as well as narrow lanes. Furthermore, the poet describes how rain clatters on the roof, and creates a sound effect of hoofs.

  2. National Emblem: The national emblem of India is known as Ashok Stambha. It has four lions standing back to back, facing four directions. Students can see it on currency notes and coins.

  3. National Bird: The national bird of India is the peacock. Peacock has a long tail made of blue and green feathers. It dances by spreading its tail like a fan when it is happy.

  4. National Animal: Tiger is the national animal of India.

Chapter 11- The Festivals of India

In the first section, students will study Diwali. Here they can see how Meenu and her brother Kunal decorate their house, wear new clothes, and burst firecrackers during this period.

The second section portrays how Amir and his family celebrate Eid after Ramzan. On this day they distribute sweets and wear new clothes.

In the last section, students will learn about Nancy. She is excited about celebrating Christmas with her family. Additionally, her mother has prepared a special cake for this occasion. Her brother Neil has decorated the Christmas tree.

Chapter 12- The Monkey and The Elephant
