New Pattern of IIT JEE Main Mathematics

Every year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main for all aspirants looking forward to their studies in the Technological Field after high school. The pattern for JEE Main Mathematics is the same for all three papers: B.E/B. Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning. The Mathematics section will have 30 questions on all three papers. In the previous year, NTA announced major changes to the JEE Main Mathematics exam pattern, which will be followed again this year. According to the new exam pattern, the JEE Main 2025 B.E/B. Tech papers will have 30 questions from each subject or section. Twenty of the 30 questions will be MCQs with ten numeric values. Candidates may attempt 5 out of 10 numerical value-based questions.


Details of the Mathematics Pattern for JEE Main 2025

  • Types of Questions:

As per the pattern JEE Mathematics, the JEE Main Mathematics paper will contain two types of questions. MCQs fall under the first category, while non-MCQ or numeric value questions fall under the second.


  • Total Number of Questions:

The JEE Main Mathematics section will contain 30 questions. There will be 20 MCQs and 10 non-MCQs with a numerical value as an answer out of 30 questions. Candidates may attempt 5 out of 10 numerical value-based questions.


  • Marking Scheme: 

+4 marks for each correct answer to an MCQ or a Numeric Value Question will be awarded.


  • Negative Marking:

One mark is deducted for each incorrect response; however, there is no negative marking for answers with numeric values.


  • Total Marks:

The Mathematics section is worth 100 points, and the overall JEE Main 2025 B.Tech paper is worth 300 points.


  • Time Required: 

The total time required to complete all three sections, namely Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, is three hours. The total time duration for candidates with 40% disability is 4 hours.


  • Examinations available in languages:

The Examination paper is available in three different languages: Hindi, English, and Gujarati. Candidates can choose between English and Hindi question papers. This option will be made available to all candidates. Gujarati is the only language available to candidates from Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.


  • Total Number of Sections: 

 JEE Main 2025 will have three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.


As per the Maths JEE pattern, each set of questions in the JEE Main Mathematics section will have 30 questions. There will be 20 MCQ questions and 10 Non-MCQ or Numeric questions among those 30. The student must attempt a total of 25 questions. Students may attempt any five questions from a pool of 10 Non-MCQs in an examination.


Mathematics Marking Scheme for JEE Main 2025

There are three sections in the B.tech part of the JEE Main Examinations: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Each section contains 30 questions, each worth 100 points. So, in the JEE Main papers, 90 questions worth 300 marks must be answered in 3 hours by each candidate.


Main Characteristics of JEE Main 2025 Mathematics Questions

Candidates in JEE Main will be required to answer two types of questions in the paper. MCQs fall under the first category, while non-MCQ or numeric value questions fall under the second.

  • Candidates will be given four options to answer Multiple Choice Questions. Candidates must choose one correct answer.

Formula-Based Questions: 

Some of the JEE Main Mathematics paper questions will be directly based on formulas. Formula knowledge is essential for answering these questions. Candidates can get the correct answer by using the formula. Such questions may not necessitate lengthy calculations and can be answered quickly and easily.

Category 3: At least One Question - Candidates can expect at least one question from this category in the final examination. A candidate can perform well if he or she studies and practices these subjects.


Some topics are- Circles and Family of Circles,3D Geometry, Probability and Statistics, Parabola, Integration, Vector Algebra &, etc.
