A few changes have been implemented in the past few years regarding the JEE Main exam mode. Previously, the JEE Main exam had two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, where candidates could choose one or both papers. Later, from January 2020 onwards, the conducting authority introduced an additional Paper II B for B. Planning courses.

How are Paper 1 and Paper 2 Conducted in JEE Main 2023?
Every year, the NTA administers the JEE (Joint Entrance Exams) to provide eligible aspirants admissions into courses like B.Tech., B.Arch., B.Plan & B.E., etc. in the popular engineering institutes across the country such as NITs, IITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, etc.
JEE Main Paper 1 is for admissions in B.Tech/B.E courses, whereas Paper 2 has further two parts - Paper 2A for B.Arch courses, and Paper 2B for B.Plan courses. A candidate must perform well in the JEE Main Paper 1 and Paper 2 to appear in the JEE Advanced exams.

JEE Main Exam Mode
JEE Main 2023 examinations are being held in the following modes. Take a look:
JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech) - Paper 1 of JEE Main covers subjects like Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. It is a Computer-Based Test that will be conducted online.
Paper 2A (B. Arch) - The second paper of B.Arch covers subjects - Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Tests. The exam will be conducted both Online & Offline. It means:
The Aptitude and Mathematic Section is held in Online Mode.
The Art or Structure Drawing is held in Offline mode ie. Pen and Paper Mode. Candidates will be given a drawing sheet of A4 size.
Paper 2B (B. Planning) - The exam of B.Plan consists of sections - Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-based. It will be held Online mode.

JEE Main 2023 Exam Pattern - Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E.)
The Paper 1 of JEE Main offers admissions to B.Tech/B.E courses
The exam duration is 3 hours. (4 hours for the PwD candidates)
It is a Computer-based Test.
Paper 1 has two sections for each subject - Section 1 for MCQs and Section 2 for Numerical-based Questions.
Paper 1 will ask for 90 MCQs for a total of 300 marks.
There are 20 questions in Section A from each of the subjects which are compulsory to attempt Whereas Section B will have 10 questions out of which, aspirants can select any 5 questions to attempt.
JEE Main 2023 Exam Pattern - Paper 2A (B.Arch)
Aptitude and the Mathematics Section will be held Online.
The Paper of Art or Structure Drawing is conducted in Offline mode.
In the Drawing sections, there will be 2 questions to access the drawing skills of the candidates.
The Mathematics section covers 20 MCQs and 10 numerical-based questions.
Last, the Aptitude Section will have 50 questions.

JEE Main 2023 - Marking Scheme
As per the NTA announcements, +4 marks will be given to students for each correct answer and -1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Also, 0 marks for every unanswered/unattempted question.
JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are advised to check the JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria before filling out online application forms. Only the candidates who meet the eligibility requirements get to appear in the exam. Here are the details as follows:
Age Criteria - There are no age criteria defined by the NTA for the candidates to appear in the JEE Main exams.
Qualifying Exam - Any student who has passed the Class 12th or another equivalent exam in the year 2021, and 2022, or is appearing in 2023 is eligible to apply for the exams.
Total Number of Attempts -Students can appear in the JEE Main exams six times for a period of three consecutive years starting from passing Class 12th.
Subjects -For B.E/B. Tech, candidates must have passed their qualifying exams in Physics, Mathematics, and Biology. For B.Arch, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are compulsory subjects while for B.Plan, candidates must have scored their qualifying exam in Mathematics.
Minimum Marks -Students must pass their Class 12th exams with a minimum of 75% while for SC/ST candidates, the minimum scores in 12th Class are 65%.
