There is a long list of players who have made astonishing records in ICC world cups. With every ICC event, new world cup records are established and old ones broken by outstanding performances. Many Indian players have also made cricket records in the 11 ICC Cricket World Cups held so far. The current record for the highest run-scorer in world cup history is held by Sachin Tendulkar. Highest score in world cup cricket - Team Records

  • The record for the highest team score in the world cup is 417–6, made by Australia against Afghanistan in 2015.

  • The record of the lowest team score of 36 runs was made by Canada against Sri Lanka in 2003.

  • The highest match aggregate record is (688–18) in a match between Australia vs Sri Lanka in 2015.

  • The highest successful run chase record of 329–7 was made by Ireland against England in 2011.

  • The highest winning margin record of 275 runs was secured in the match Australia vs Afghanistan in 2015.

  • The lowest winning margin of 1 run was between Australia vs India in (1987) and again in 1992.

  • The record for winning the maximum number of matches by a team is held by Australia. The team has won 62 matches in all the ICC World Cups. The second position is held by  New Zealand with 48 wins.

  • Zimbabwe is the team holding the record for most matches lost (42) in ICC World Cups. Sri Lanka holds the second position with 35 lost matches.

World Cup Records- Centuries

  • The fastest double century in ICC World Cup was hit in 138 balls by Chris Gayle in the match against Zimbabwe in 2015.

  • The fastest century in the World Cup has been hit by Ireland's Kevin O'Brien vs England in 50 balls in 2011.

  • The first century in the ICC World Cup was scored by Dennis Amiss of England with 137 against India in 1975.

  • The fastest fifty in the ICC Cricket World Cup was hit by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum vs England in 2015 in 18 balls.

  • The record for most centuries in a World Cup goes to both Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma with 6 centuries while the second place is shared by Ricky Ponting and Sangakkara with five centuries.

  • The record for most 50+ scores in the ICC Cricket World Cup was made by Sachin Tendulkar (21). The second place is held by Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara (12)

  • The record for the most centuries in a World Cup by a player in a tournament is held by Rohit Sharma with five centuries in 2019. Sangakkara scored four centuries in the 2015 tournament. Players who have scored three centuries in a single tournament are Waugh (1996), Ganguly (2003), Matthew Hayden (2007), and Warner (2019).

  • The fastest 150 records is held by AB de Villiers in South Africa v West Indies at 64 balls in 2015

  • The record for making a century on his ODI debut in a World Cup was made by Andy Flower of Zimbabwe in 1992.

  • The maximum number of centuries was made in the 2015 tournament with 38 centuries while there were just two centuries in the 1979 World Cup.

  • The record for the highest century in World Cup is held by a cricketer is 237* by New Zealand's  Martin Guptill v West Indies in 2015.

  • Most consecutive centuries (4) in ICC Cricket World Cup have been hit by Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka in 2015.

 

World Cup Batting records

  • The record for the highest individual score in a World Cup is held by Sachin Tendulkar with 2,278 runs. The record for second-highest runs scored is made by Ricky Ponting with 1,743 runs. Kumar Sangakkara is in third place with 1532 runs, followed by Brian Lara at 1225.

  • Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers have hit the maximum number of sixes of 37 each with Australia Ricky Ponting following at a close second at 31.

  • The highest partnership score of  (372 runs) has been made by West Indies's Marlon Samuels & Chris Gayle (2nd wicket) vs Zimbabwe in (2015). The second-best partnership of 318 runs (2nd wicket) vs Sri Lanka in (1999) was between India’s Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. 

  • Most runs (673) in a tournament was hit by Sachin Tendulkar(11 innings) in 2003.

  • The record for highest average has been made by Lance Klusener at 124.00 followed by Andrew Symonds at 103.00

  • Most runs through boundaries (162) in an innings were scored by Martin Guptill in New Zealand v West Indies (2015)

 

World Cup Bowling records

  • The highest score in the world cup for most wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup is of Australian Glenn McGrath (71) with Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan’s 68 wickets record at second place.

  • The first player to take 4 wickets in 4 balls at an international level was Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka, in the 2007 World Cup, against South Africa.

  • There have been hat tricks in ICC Cricket World Cups by Chetan Sharma, Saqlain Mushtaq, Brett Lee, Kemar Roach, Steven Finn, JP Duminy, and Mohammed Shami. The record holder for being the first bowler to take two hat-tricks in Cricket World Cup matches is Lasith Malinga from Sri Lanka.

 

World Cup Fielding records

  • The record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper is held by Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (21) in 2003 and New Zealand’s  Tom Latham (21) in 2019.

  • Kumar Sangakkara is the wicketkeeper to hold the record for most dismissals (54) followed by Adam Gilchrist (52) from Australia.

  • Most catches by a fielder in all ICC Cricket World Cup have been taken by Ricky Ponting (28 catches), Joe Root from England (20), and Sanath Jayasuriya (18 catches).

  • The record for most wickets (4) in consecutive balls goes to Lasith Malinga in Sri Lanka v South Africa (2007).

 

World Cup Captaincy records

  • Ricky Ponting from Australia has played the most matches as captain (29), while the second place is held by New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming (27).

  • The best win percentage as a captain record (min. 10 matches) belongs to Australia’s Ricky Ponting with 92.85% (29 matches). In second place for this record is West Indies’s Clive Lloyd with 88.23% (17 matches).

  • The youngest player to have played in the ICC World Cup is Nitish Kumar of Canada (2011) at 16 years, 283 days. Talha Jubair of Bangladesh, at 17 years, 70, is the second-youngest player to have played in the Cricket World Cup-2003.

  • Nolan Clarke (age of 47 years, 257 days) of the Netherlands was the oldest player in ICC cricket world cup 1996. In the second place for this record is Zimbabwe’s John Traicos at 44 years, 306 days who played in the 1992 World Cup.

  • A total of 40 players aged 19 years or under have played in the World Cup and 19 players aged 40 and above have played in the World Cup matches

  • The record for most extras conceded in one innings was made in Scotland v  Pakistan in 1999 - 59 (5 b, 6 lb, 33 w, 15 nb).

  • The ICC World Cup tournament has been held in England five times. English grounds hold the record for hosting the most World Cup matches.

  • Most matches hosted by a ground record belong to England Old Trafford, Manchester with 17 matches.

  • Anderson Cummins, Kepler Wessels, Ed Joyce, and Eoin Morgan are the only four cricketers who have represented two different countries in ICC Cricket World Cup.

  • Adam Gilchrist, Glenn McGrath, and Ricky Ponting share the world record of receiving three World Cup titles. Each player was a member of the winning teams of Australia in 1999, 2003, and 2007.

  • Most matches as an umpire in the World Cup record has been made by David Shepherd from England with 46 matches. West Indies Cricket umpire Steve Bucknor follows close at 45 matches.
