KVPY Exam Pattern: What Does It Include?

KVPY stands for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. It is a scholarship programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India. The KVPY exam pattern includes a question paper with two parts, each with four sections.

There is a variation in the marks allotted for each question. If you are preparing for this exam, then it is highly recommended for you to check the details and get an idea of how the exam paper will be set.

KVPY SA Paper Pattern

To score well in the KVPY SA Paper, students must know the exam pattern thoroughly. Here are the key pointers to remember:

  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics are important KVPY subjects for the SA stream examination.

  • The examination will last three hours.

  • The test is divided into two sections. Part 1 of all subjects contains 60 questions, while Part 2 contains 20 questions. You must attempt all questions in all subjects.

  • There are questions in English and Hindi, and both parts have a different KVPY marking scheme.

  • In Part 1, each correct answer is worth one mark, while each incorrect answer is worth 0.25 points.

  • Part 2 awards 2 points for each correct answer and 0.5 points for each incorrect response.

  • The KVPY total marks allotted for the question paper is 100, with a total of 25 marks for each subject.

KVPY SX Paper Pattern (and SB Paper)

Before starting with preparation, it’s essential to be familiar with the KVPY SX Paper Pattern. Check out the key information related to the KVPY exam below:

  • KVPY Syllabus SX includes Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology as the major subjects.

  • The exam is divided into two parts, including questions from all four subjects.

  • The exam will last three hours, and the KVPY marking scheme for both parts will be different.

  • Part 1 allows candidates to answer three of the four sections (20 x 3 = 60). Each correct answer carries one mark, while an incorrect answer deducts 0.25 points.

  • Part 2 allows them to attempt two of the four sections (20 x 2 = 40). Each correct answer is worth two points, while incorrect answers are worth 0.5 points.

  • Candidates must attempt a total of 80 questions.

  • The KVPY total marks allotted for the question paper are 100.

NOTE: The same criteria and syllabus are followed for the KVPY SB Paper as well.

FAQs on KVPY Exam Pattern 2022

1. Are NCERT books enough for the KVPY Exam?

The NCERT books will be sufficient enough for Biology, as it is more of a theoretical subject. However, if you consider subjects like Mathematics and Physics, then NCERT books may help you to an extent, but you need to practice from other resources too. If you consider Chemistry, it can be beneficial in some parts, such as Inorganic Chemistry. But it's not sufficient for numerical problems and reactions.

2. How many rounds are there in the KVPY Exam?

The KVPY exam is divided into two stages, the aptitude test and the interview process. However, due to COVID-19, there will be no interviews this year, and the KVPY test will have only one round.
