Once there was a blind man who lived in a small town. He lived alone all by himself. He always carries a lamp with him. One day he was passing by the street when a group of young travelers saw him with a lamp. They started to make fun of the blind man. One of them started laughing saying, “Hey look at the blind man with the lamp.” The man heard it and replied to the young travelers, “ I am carrying this lamp not for myself, it's for people like you who can see but don’t notice me that I’m blind unless I'm carrying this lamp and pushing me in a hurry.” The young travelers felt ashamed of their behavior. They apologized to the blind man.

Choose Your Words Wisely

Once there was an old man who spread a rumor that his neighbor was a thief. The young neighbor got arrested by the police as a result of the rumor. After some time, the young neighbor proved innocent and returned to his home. Learning that the old man had spread the rumor, the young man got very angry and sued the old man.


In court when the old man was asked why he was spreading false information about his neighbor the old man said with no regrets, “ I was just passing comments on him, it is not that much harmful.” Before giving any sentence on that case, the judge asked the old man to write down the comments he made about his neighbor on some pieces of paper and throw them out on the way to his home.


The next day before giving the sentence the judge asked the old man to bring those papers back. The old man replied, “ I can’t find them as wind may spread those papers far away.” The judge points out, “Just like that, your comments may spread far away and harm others,” The old man realized his mistake and apologized to the young neighbor.

Think Before You Judge

One day a doctor rushed into his hospital after getting an emergency call. He quickly changed his clothes and rushed to the surgery room. He saw the boy’s father outside the operating room who screamed at the doctor angrily for coming late. The doctor said politely, “I rushed to the hospital as soon as I got your call.'' He also added, “Calm down! Your son will be okay.” hearing that the boy’s father got angry and said, “How can I calm down? You can’t understand my situation. If it will happen to your son, then you will understand how tough it is to don’t react to some irresponsible doctors who don’t care to reach the hospital on time.'' The doctor said nothing and rushed into the operating room.


After the operation, the doctor informed the boy’s father that the operation was successful and his son was safe. The doctor didn’t wait for the father to reply and left. The father got angry and said that the doctor is arrogant. The nurse attending his son said, “The doctor is rushing to the burial ground. His son died in an accident yesterday night. He was in the burial ground when he got your call. He is now rushing towards the burial ground to complete the burial rituals.” The boy’s father felt ashamed of his words.

Moral of the Stories 

The first story “ A Man With a Lamp” is one of the finest moral stories on respect for elders. It teaches us to behave politely to everyone. The second story named “ Choose Your Words Wisely” teaches us not to put blame on anyone without knowing the fact- you may destroy the reputation of an innocent person. The third story “Think Before You Judge” teaches us that we never should judge anyone without knowing their condition.
