 A nuclear envelope is a double membrane covering which encloses the nucleus. It consists of lipid bilayer. This membrane is porous in nature. Due to the porous nature, it allows the movement of certain molecules like nucleic acid and protein between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Nuclear membrane has two layers-
Outer layer- It shares the common border with rough endoplasmic reticulum. The proteins synthesised by the ribosomes of RER are channelled through endoplasmic reticulum to the nucleus. Outer nuclear membrane contains proteins which are present in higher concentration than the endoplasmic reticulum.
Inner layer- The inner layer encloses the nucleoplasm. It is connected to the outer membrane by nuclear pores.
Microtubules- These are the hollow tubes which are the chief component of cytoskeleton.
Smooth E.R- It is the structure which transports proteins and also makes certain lipids.
Membrane of golgi complex- It buds off from the endoplasmic reticulum. It is involved in lipid transport and making lysosomes.
