RMO Counselling

Due to COVID - 19, there will be no PRMO and RMO this year. A three-hour examination known as the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) conducted by the Mathematics Teachers Association (India)(MTA)(I). Read More about IOQM

IOQM syllabus and examination format will be similar to PRMO this year.

The NBHM in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education organises the regional maths Olympiad contests across this country as the first step to shortlist a team for IMO or International Maths Olympiad. Students who aspire to represent India in International Maths Olympiad can take part in this contest, which is usually held between September and December every year.

Accordingly, they need to familiarise themselves with all essential aspects of this test, including RMO counselling 2020.

RMO Counselling Procedure

Unlike other competitive examinations, there is no specific counselling procedure for Regional Maths Olympiad. Based on their performance in RMO, thirty students from Class 8, 9, 10, 11 and six students from Class 12 (hailing from different regions throughout India) are chosen to participate in the next round of Olympiad selection procedure.

Apart from the above-mentioned general selection during RMO counselling 2020, five girl students will also be chosen from Class 8 to 11 at this stage. Furthermore, previous years INMO awardees are also eligible to participate in this round.

The school administration itself will notify students who participated on behalf of a particular school if they qualify for the next stage and guide them through RMO counselling 2020. Individual students can easily check their result and merit list online.

How to Check the RMO Score?

Students participating in RMO counselling 2020 can check RMO score by following the steps below:

  1. Visit the official website of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.

  2. Select the tab for the recent Olympiad cycle, which can be found on the upper section of the webpage.

  3. Under this tab, scroll down to the RMO section to find the result link and then click on it. Once you click on this link, a new window will open.

  4. Candidates need to log in using their Date of Birth and roll number to see their final score.

Students from KV and JNV schools cannot check their score through this process. To know their RMO score and take part in RMO counselling 2020, they need to get in touch with their school administration.

How to Check RMO Merit List?

Under this same section, candidates taking part in RMO counselling 2020 will also find a link for RMO merit list. They can click on the same to check whether they qualified for Indian National Mathematics Olympiad. Students who qualify RMO can proceed to register themselves for the next stage, which is INMO.

What Happens in Case of a Tie?

In case of a tie during RMO counselling 2020, the regional coordinator will implement the Pre RMO (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad) scores of candidates to make a final decision. However, if the tie exists even after applying Pre RMO scores, then the final merit list will include the names of all candidates whose score were in a tie.

INMO Counselling Procedure

Aside from RMO counselling 2020, Students should also possess a clear idea about Indian National Mathematics Olympiad, which is the next stage after RMO. It is the most significant step in the overall Olympiad selection procedure.

Talented minds from all over India compete against each other to win a chance of representing India at international Olympiad. Accordingly, the difficulty level of the test is also significantly high.

At this stage, only the top 30 students from Class 8 to 11, and 6 students from Class 12 are selected to appear for the final round. They are known as the INMO awardees and they are qualified to take part in the International Maths Olympiad training camp that takes place at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai. Furthermore, under the girls' quota, five girl students will also be selected from the INMO merit list.

The next 45 students on the merit list, who failed to qualify, will receive the INMO certificate of merit. They are also eligible to participate in next year's INMO directly.

One can check the INMO merit list online by visiting the official website of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
