Due to Covid 19 - The usual three-stage procedure for the selection of the teams to represent India at the International Olympiad that has been followed in prior years is now being shortened to a two-stage procedure as a one-time exception only for the academic year 2020 - 21. The InChO stands for  Indian National Chemistry Olympiad is an Olympiad in Chemistry held in India.

The theory part of the INChO examination is held in the end-January or beginning of February of every year. It is conducted by the IACT, Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers. Students of Class 11 and Class 12 first need to qualify the National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) held in November of the preceding year. About 35 students are selected from the written examination.

Q1. What are the Different Stages of the Chemistry Olympiad?

Answer: The Chemistry Olympiad usually consists of the following stages-

Stage I: NSEC- National Standard Examination in Chemistry,

Stage II: INChO - Indian National Chemistry Olympiad,

Stage III: OSC - Orientation cum Selection Camp in the subject of chemistry,

Stage IV: PDT - Pre-departure Training Camp for IChO

Stage V: IChO - Participation in International Chemistry Olympiad.


Except for the first stage, all the other stages are planned and organized by HBCSE. The first stage is the responsibility of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers- IAPT. Stage 1 is entirely the responsibility of IAPT. All the remaining stages are organized by HBCSE.

Q2. What is the Procedure For Selection In Chemistry Stage II (INChO 2020).

Answer:

  • There will be the division of the students batch in two groups i.e. Group- A & Group - B.

  • Group A: Consists of students of class XII from November 30, 2019.

  • Group B: Consists of students of class XI or lower as of November 30,

  • The question paper of NSEC 2019 and INChO 2020 will be the same for both groups.

  • A total of 250 students will be selected from each group for stage II of INChO and therefore a total of 500 students will be selected.

  • Separately Merit Index (MI) and Minimum Admissible Score (MAS) will be calculated for each group.

Q3. Exam Pattern and Syllabus of INChO.

Answer: The exam pattern and syllabus of INChO is given below:

  • Question Paper Pattern: 80 MCQs with negative marking.

  • Medium Of Paper: English & Hindi (have to be chosen during registration)

  • Syllabus: The syllabus of the INChO exam is broadly equivalent to the senior secondary level of CBSE.

Q4. What is HBCSE Science Olympiad 2019-2020?

Answer: The science olympiad is a 5-stage selection process for shortlisting the Indian team for representation at the International Olympiads in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Junior Science, and Physics.the very first stage is NSE (National Standard Examination), and the 2nd stage, is INO (Indian National Olympiad). The students who qualify stage 1 have to register online for the 2nd stage on the official HBCSE site. The selection procedure consists of the following 5 stages: NSE, INO, Orientation-cum-Selection camp (OCSC), pre-departure camp, and International Olympiad.
